Starts at 5:38am I think it said. Then just moves across for about 2 hours until the moon is totally red
Kerry
21-12-2010, 05:23 AM
BTW it's not hugely dramatic. I've seen it before. It just looks pink :D It's just the fact it's the first time it's fallen on winter solstice in nearly 400 years that makes it pretty..... unique. No one else in our years has witnessed it
Twilight
21-12-2010, 05:28 AM

I'm afraid from past experience it just turns mildly pink :joker: I have mates who take pics. I'll post them tomorrow if they get some good ones :) But thats all it is, just a pink tint  It's just the fact of the time it's fallen thats special as it's the winter equinox. Shortest day of the year. It hasn't happened for nearly 400 years so we're the first to be 'here' as it happens

Oh...it's stupidly foggy here. Nothing.
Kerry
21-12-2010, 06:50 AM
Has the moon been swallowed up or something
No, it's directly inline with the earth and sun
So you wont be able to see the Moon til 7:40?
Kerry
21-12-2010, 06:54 AM
So you wont be able to see the Moon til 7:40?
Of course you can. But if you look at it now you will see a shadow over the moon. At 7:40 the sun, earth and moon will align and the moon be totally in shadow becoming dark. Basically all three are in a row and the moon is in darkness until the rest moves about as it does......
Jordan.
21-12-2010, 06:56 AM
UGH trust the houses opposite to be blocking the moon, dont think I can face going outside in -12 just to see it.
