daniel-lewis-1985
03-01-2012, 12:36 PM
About 4.5 million.
Remember last year people thought launch wouldnt even hit 2 million and then the next day ratings come out as 5.1!
Channel 5 are failing hard at the moment. Look at last nights viewing figures:
The Hotel Inspector from 7pm, which had 428k (1.6%). The Greatest Ever Carry On Films entertained 610k (2.2%) from 8pm, and 1.11m (4.9%) saw the film Hitch.
Channel 5 have had the lowest share of the audience of all terestrial channels pretty much everyday since BB ended.

I am not surprised about the ratings. I don't care about the ratings. I will always watch BB. But it seems to be targeted a young audience. They put more younger and stupid people in there who can't string a sentence together so the oldies can't be bothered to watch anymore.
Live Feed is a big thing too. It doesn't cost much. Just give us back 24 7 live feed if they want higher ratings. They obviously want to quickly do BB13 and want it all to end.

Pretty disappointing really considering the hype online, but I do guess this is proof that it means nothing. It's good for C5 though.
I predicted 3.7m, wasn't that far off.
What does that mean though it peaked at 6.9?
No, 6.9m is the reach. Basically it means every single viewer that watched in total, regardless of how long for. For example a lot of people will tune in for half an hour or so, then switch off. As a random example, say 2m tuned in between 9:00 and 10:00, and a different 1m tuned in between 10:00 and 11:00, the total reach would be 3m.

It could well be the higher ratings don't return until a year from now.
It is the 3rd series in only 6months...
To put it bluntly, celeb BB could average 2mil viewers and channel 5 will still be delighted with that. Its the only show that guarentess them a steady 1.5/2mil audience every night.
If you look at the articles about their audience share and profits, alot of it is down to BB.

Very true. Last night when I saw tweets like 'these are not even real celebs, big brother is sh*te' I was thinking 'THEN DON'T FUC*ING WATCH SOMETHING THAT YOU DISLIKE!! LEAVE BIG BROTHER TO BE WATCHED BY PEOPLE WHO LIKE BIG BROTHER!'. I especially get irritated by comments such as 'Big Brother is the worst show on TV, needs to be cancelled now'. Indeed
Disappointing ratings for the launch :(
Yeah, DS say :
Celebrity Big Brother 2012 made a modest start on Thursday night, the latest overnight data indicates.
Only 3.46m (15.8%) watched the likes of Frankie Cocozza, Natalie Cassidy and Kirk Norcross enter the house from 9pm, a significant fall of 1.7m on last summer's series.
http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tv/s150/celebrity-big-brother/news/a358866/celebrity-big-brother-2012-premieres-with-35m.html
Guardian say :
The two-hour launch show had a 15.9% share of the audience between 9pm and 11pm on Thursday but it was some way down on the 5.1 million who watched the debut of last year's series on Channel 5, the first since it was dumped by Channel 4.
Ratings for last year's series settled down around the 2 million mark, bouncing back to almost 2.9 million for its final, won by Big Fat Gypsy Wedding star Paddy Doherty.
Channel 5 will be hoping for a similar return for its new series, although with the launch audience around a third down on last year's opener, it may prove a tough ask. The broadcaster will also being hoping that viewers are not suffering from Big Brother fatigue after three series in less than six months.

Friday 6th January Overnights
Channel 5 (inc +1)
20:00- World's Toughest Trucker: 1.25m (5.1%)
21:00- Celebrity Big Brother: 2.61m (10.6%)
* peak: 3.03m (12.3%)
22:00- Celebrity Wedding Planner: 1.02m (5.2%)
23:00- Celebrity Big Brother's Bit on the Side: 668k (5.2%)
That's a 74% retention of the launch rating, CBB's best second-night retention on record (i.e. smallest ever drop). Last summer's CBB8 second episode retained a smaller 62% of the launch audience. So a possibility now that if the next few days hold pretty steady, the gap will close between CBB9 and CBB8

Good news but remember the episode after the launch allways gets higher then the rest and finally settles on about day 4 at a lower rating.
Last years first 2 episodes both got over 3 million then dropped to 2.5 where roughly it stayed for the rest of the series.
I do have a feeling this series can redeem itself though.
If it can average 2.8 million like last year then it will be another success.

I think it's done quite well for a show on Channel 5, I bet if you rounded up any other of it's programmes it would have minuscule ratings.
Also, people are right in saying it's not event TV anymore, the show is being watched by the fans but I think it's main target audience would be 14-21 year olds so it's pulling in the younger audience, if they had a better age range of housemates in the September series and filled this series less models then I think it'd probably get a much higher reception. I'd say if they had of thrown in Ruby Wax, Boy George and ditched the twins it'd have something for everyone.
As it stands at the moment I think it's more likely that young girls and gay are the target audience given that it's filled with Kirk for his looks, Nicola and Denise for their strong female opinions , Natasha for her controversy, Natalie for her weight issues, the twins for there California girls image, the rugby guy for his coming out bravery, Andrew for his flamboyance and Frankie for his bad boy image, they are all really tabloid showbiz magazine celebs so I think Channel 5 know their type of audience pull. :)

I think CBB will be renewed, it's usually always trending on Twitter worldwide every night without fail and has steady ratings of 2m+ each night. In this day and age I would say that getting a show to trend or something related to the show to trend worldwide each episode is pretty damn good, I'm guessing that nowadays producers and the channel bosses take things like trending on Twitter into consideration when deciding a show's future. In comparison Amy Childs' reality show gets under 500k each episode. Not too many shows get over 2m on Channel 5 so why would they want to get rid of a show that brings in that amount of viewers each episode? Regular BB is a whole different story though and I can see this year's series being the last ever if ratings don't improve which I doubt they will unless live feed is fully reinstated.

Seeing how good this CBB has been so far its makes me even more angry that there isn't a late night live stream, jeez channel 5 you have enough bloddy channels to show it on... why don't you make some use of the +1 slot after midnight (who the hell's going to use +1 services at that hour!).
I hope the ratings stay level at around 2 million, would be a reasonble figure to expect.

Because there is so much editing in the highlights now aswell we need live feed just to get to know the housemates.

Why are you still complaining about the editing? It's been this way for 3 series now, get over it.

The rating for Sunday's show was 2.23m inc. +1. For the second half of the show more viewers were watching Channel 5 than any other channel.
Last years same episode drew 2.5 in officials so im thinking this is roughly the same.

It was EXACT to last years CBB8 Sunday rating EXCLUDING.
The 2.23m beats last years 2.14m
Second half of episode was most watched of its entire slot, and the show grew throughout the hour.

This is good, it is at the exact same stage as least years ratings now, and the 11.5% share is the highest since launch I think, so that is very impressive to be honest. I hope ratings rise in a similar way to how they did last year throughout the week.

Tonight will be tough!
E4 launches Playing it Straight (loved the show all those years ago!)
BBC Three launches Sex week.
Both have the same target audience of CBB. CBB should come out on top but I just hope it can build on last nights 2.23, if not, stay over 2m!

Tbh even if it gets 2mil, its boosting five's audience share very significantly, even above channel 4's.
And this is the the 3rd series in a mere 6months, it's bb overload tbh. No way five will get rid of it or the normal series if these figures hold up.
If bb 13 averages the same ratings as bb12, expect to see bb around for years. five annouced record profits, mainly in large to big brother, with its sponsership revenue amongst other souces of income bb brings. Not to mention it's boosted the target audience five wanted to attract massively.

The old dead and buried C4 big brother would be spinning in its grave now. Shame on you channel 4, shame on you.

I was aiming to go with Playing It Straight, but I will E4+1 it, love that show, glad it's back and Alan Carr is narrating it.

Not good enough
Good enough for a renewal considering it thrashed everything on the channel, beating last year slightly and beating Shameless, as well as Coppers on the 9pm slot on Ch4.
According to the breakdown it got around 2.49m excluding the breaks, and it peaked at 2.57m.

Yes it is. I think tonight another rise as Jedward are in and last night it had quite a lot of competition, tonight I honestly looked at the schedules and can say nothing really appeals with the BB target audience.

Good news, I reckon this series will average pretty much the same as last years one. Just looking at how poorly channel 5's other programs rate, they really need to sort out their early prime time shows, something like bblb at 6:30 would be good I think.

10-01-2012, 04:47 PM
Are you sure it was 2.3?
Without plus 1 it got 2.15m (8.5%)
Channel 5 was beaten by Channel 4 last night aswell.
When Paddy met Sally performed quite well didnt it.
