Celine Dion's husband Rene Angelil has died at 73.
A statement released on the singer's Facebook page on Thursday read: 'It is with deep sadness that we announce that René Angélil, aged 73, died this morning at her residence in Las Vegas after a long and courageous fight against cancer.
'The family wishes to live the mourning in privacy. Other information you will be provided in the next few days.'
Angelil was first diagnosed with throat cancer in 1999 and it returned several times.
In March last year, a tearful Dion revealed her husband was no longer able to eat and was getting all of his meals through a tube.
She said: 'He can't use his mouth. He can't eat so I feed him. He's got a feeding tube. I have to feed him three times a day. I do this myself. So I feed my husband, then I feed my kids.'
By August, Dion said her husband was preparing for his death. His final wish was to be with the singer when he passed away.
Recalling their conversation, she said: 'I'll say, 'You're scared? I understand. Talk to me about it.'
'And René says to me, 'I want to die in your arms.' OK, fine, I'll be there, you'll die in my arms.'
The singer took a break from her residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace Las Vegas Hotel and Casino returned to the stage on August 27 at her husband's insistence.
Dion married Angelil, her manager, in 1994 and the pair went on to have three children; René-Charles, 14, and twins Nelson and Eddy, five.
Angelil has two adult children from a previous relationship; Anne-Marie, Patrick and Jean-Pierre.
Dion previously revealed it was her spirituality that has helped her to cope during her spouse’s health struggles.
Speaking to Taste of Life magazine, Celine - who was raised a Roman Catholic - revealed: 'Life is not always perfect. You have to deal with it. Whatever life imposes - sickness, or whatever, you don't have a choice. This is life, this is nature. But you do have the choice on how you're going to go through this.
'And if you don't have spirituality you're going to fall apart before things happen. I am very spiritual. I believe in myself, I believe in my family, and I'm positive. Through this, you show your children how to deal with things, and how to be strong.'

Oh no she adored him. They're really going fast this year. How will she know how to live without him they've been together since she was 14 (or so) :(

RIP

I agree that this is very sad news. May he RIP and my thoughts are with Celine.

This is the third high profile death from Cancer this week and if nothing else, at least it might bring home to people what a totally evil and terrible disease it is, hopefully with the result that those who can afford to, donate even more to Cancer Research.
