Its a strange one to call seeing as we only have CBB8 to compare it to as a lone series that launched before the regular one.

As January performed badly and averaged 1.9 im going for 1.7 average and possibly a 2.1 launch.

Agreed tbh but I don't have high hopes as much as I thought Love Island was a bore fest they were genius with promoting the show.

Channel 5 only have a 3 second eye flash which ive only seen on their main Channel once and there's like 2 weeks till the show starts :/

It DID NOT beat January as the average was 1.98m (12.9%) compared to January's 2.07m. So in fact it was down from January's launch by 90k. Just making this clear.

However this summers launch was up from last summer by 180k. And up in shade by 2.9%

CiaraNelly2000
17-08-2018, 01:07 PM

Rob!
17-08-2018, 01:16 PM
It could have been cut down by about half an hour probably but I think we might have to give some credence to exactly how much impact Stormy was supposed to have on the show’s schedule. The friends and family thing looked like pure and utter filler

*mazedsalv**
17-08-2018, 02:47 PM
The more impressive thing is that it was up 3% in share. Means less were watching tv than last year. A share like last night last year would have been probably more around the 2.2m area.

And this one's got 2m so

I meant the first episode after launch, first highlights

supertv247
18-08-2018, 11:56 AM
Some Facts

Last summers first highlights was a Wednesday with 1.6m - the Friday got 1.2m so this is 200k up and 200k down
Januarys first highlights was also a Wednesday with 1.4m and the first Friday (a live launch special) ALSO got 1.4 million

So basically it's exactly on par with the last 2 series, but taking into account it was a regular Friday episode, it can be seen as more of a success. (it's also very rare for a summer CBB to me matching, or beating, January)

glibberglobber
18-08-2018, 11:56 AM

Oh right. I think the fact that it was a Friday dented the ratings a bit, last summer's first Friday rating was only 1.2m so it's up 200k

BigBrudder
18-08-2018, 12:56 PM
I think its about a standard drop, quite decent when incorporating the fact that its a Friday. What will really be the test is the next several nights after tonight, as Saturdays are always very low. I think the whole Stormy thing has dominated the narrative and will take a few more days to fade into the background as people settle into focusing on who is in there as opposed to who isnt. The show definitely has promise though, based upon the first highlights episode, which was entertaining.

Rob!
18-08-2018, 01:13 PM
So we’re at the fair to middling stage then basically. Not quite panic stations just ever so slightly spchinter tightning?

Highest Friday Rating since CBB18. All Friday's last year were lower. It was also higher than the first Friday of the January series.

Tonight's will obviously be low and the press will have a field day with it rating below a million but I have high hopes for this cast. Viewers are very fickle and were probably turned off by the boring launch show but lets pray for a miracle and hope CBB does a Love Island and grows in ratings.

I have a feeling they are going to try and use the Stormy money to bring in one or two new housemates to save the series, like they did with Kim Woodburns series. (wouldnt mind seeing her in again lol).

What competition was it up against last night that it would rate so low compared to Saturday?

pontyboi

I really don’t know what you were all expecting

Given the buzz around this year I don't think we were expecting it to lose practically 1 million viewers in the first few days.

Lets just all cross our fingers Channel 5 don't pull out one of their crappy twists.

I think this whole president task may be a cause tbh though as its dominated the show and we all knew it was meant for Stormy so it seems a bit meh also we haven't really gotten to see the housemates interact normally which is the whole point of the social experiment because they've all been so focused on this task.

I’m assuming because Bridges of Spies is a film so went over the hour slot. I don’t actually know though :joker:

Im enjoying the show a lot, and from a fan standpoint I dont think it needs to be changed, but from a publicity standpoint i think it needs to have one or two new housemates that will generate press and interest to boost ratings a bit more. I think if it can get into 1.5 territory on overnights it might be saved.

I know launch had a skew of 27%. To compare ITVs average in that demo is around 17-18%

Sunday's episode 16-34 was 279k (around a quarter of the overall) which is good.

It's also been reported this series is 16% up in terms of social media interactions than January. Kantar reported this.

Jesus that’s terrible for BOTS

BOTS is not the same this year, I feel as if theyve tried to respond to criticism of the show being too camp and crazy by some people, and toned it down. Theyve stopped Rylan dancing in, and gotten rid of the familiar audience we're used to, like Paul and Barbara and the drag queens. The result is that its become a more boring version of itself with nothing really added, theyve only taken things away. Rylan seems to be trying but I can tell its affected him too, as he has less to bounce off of, and the enegy of the whole thing is too low. I know some people on this forum have been critical of BOTS but many others like myself enjoyed the exact things that theyve changed and I believe thats affected the ratings.

Rob!
22-08-2018, 11:28 AM
Possibly. Tbh I rarely watch BOTS anyway. It’s never been the right type of side show for me, even when Emma was presenting it. I never liked Big Mouth either.

Worth pointing out last night that CBB didn’t trail too far behind the top channel. BBC1 got 2.5m at 9pm which isn’t really that much either.
CBB was also the highest rated show on Channel 5 yesterday.

Still just not good enough.

I was hoping the series would be around 1.4m nightly.

I get it. The show is getting a good reaction, BUT after like 10 years of pissing viewers off, it's no shock that viewers aren't just gonna flock back. Gaining trust back takes time, I can only hope that this means trust in BB19 will start to be more visible.

Also, BB19 should benefit from the new BARB system hopefully.

Ratings aside though, i am loving pretty much everything about the series.

If the base rating is around a 1.2, I think one or two new housemates (the right ones of course) could perk it up to 1.4-1.45 which would be a nice increase from last summer. The next eviction I believe was moved to Monday from Tuesday, perhaps thats why? We would probably get an announcement tonight if thats gonna happen.

Bull.

The ratings wouldn't have been better whether she was in there or not.

How many times must it be said, you cannot expect a show to just increase in ratings after a decade and more of taking fans for a ride and many, many bad decisions. It takes more than a week of a well produced series to get people's faith back in the show.

BigBrudder

I really don't think anyone would have given a damn about some old hooker whose only claim to fame is sucking the dick of a widely despised man. I mean what can you ask her? "What did his dick taste like?" It's not like Omarossa, who was given a job at the White House where she can embellish her relevance and pander to a receptive media. I don't think Omarossa had much impact in terms of ratings on CBBUS, but this woman offers nothing.

You can't really claim that it would have made for enthralling television to watch her decide who takes cold showers and who loses their suitcase, rather than Kirstie.

The ratings suck because the cast is appalling and because of the negative tone of the show.

No, because it was 1.30 it pulled the 1.32 average down every so unnoticeably.

However, the WHOLE CBB20 average was 1.32m. The first week alone 1.53, and the second week was 1.19.
So just now if you split it the same, then the first week of this series was 1.47m and the second week is at 1.23m, so down on the first week then up on the second week and exactly the same over all.

(just FYI - the first week last year was Tuesday - Saturday whereas we only had Thursday - Saturday this year, which is why it's lower despite launch being higher)

Hope that clears it up haha

Definitely harmed by Bodyguard which had nearly 7 million, and unfortunately that's on again tonight (then just every Sunday night)

It's down 130k on last summer. This time last year, the series started to pick up averaging 1.3m in week 3 and 1.4m in week 4 so hopefully this series can do the same...

Edit: It's also just come to my attention that this was up 100k on last Sundays show, even with the competition, so Natalie fans claiming the show is over can stop now :)

I know it's really poor, but up on the 1.10m from last Sunday.... erm Natalie fans :p

But with the 2nd episode of Bodyguaard tonight I am assuming 1.2m again. Last Monday was the highest of the week (1.35m) and there is no way it's going near that.

Officials tomorrow... we will see at what sort of gains we are getting, the launch gain of 540k bodes well and surely means we wills ee 600k+ adds, maybe even 700k+. 700k would be good and would bring it to officials of around 1.9m-2.0m but you know, that's being optimistic.

Lets remind ourselves that the official average of last summer is 1.78m. (1.31m overnight).

Yeah so 1.98m watched launch overnight so 530k watched on catch up. These do not include people who watched on My5 though - those figures will only be counted from September onwards (so for bbuk)

Not bad at all for the officials.

Wow at 810k being added for Saturday. Pretty much more than most episodes of bb18 as an overnight

Thanks! I'd imagine civilian will see a decent rise compared to last year, then? Although it will be very hard to compare the figures from one year to the next.

It seems crazy that they're only just now measuring online on demand figures, though? It's 2018!!

BB19’s officials at the very least should all be comfortably be in the 1.2m range

Problem is it will be difficult to judge that against last year due to the online figures being included.

We have NO idea how much online figures will add - could be from 50k to 500k

CBB20 averaged 1.78 so at 2.04 we're currently up quite a bit year on year, and the equivalent weekend of officials from last year were at 1.76m so even more so on that. Hopefully it holds its lead.

What confuses me is the fact that the whole media got the figures for catchup/recorded figures ect from ITV2 which reportedly took Love Island up to an average of 5 million viewers :/

1.21 million

Down 270k on last year (though that was only an hour eviction, not finishing so late as 10:45pm last night)
I thought it'd be a bit higher given how dramatic it was and trending 6 times on twitter. Hopefully catch up numbers will be substantial

Thanks for that, great illustration of how vital BB is to C5s ratings, officials add so much more to BB than to its other shows. Theyd be insanely foolish and arrogant (which unfortunately Frow is) to axe it. Imagine how much lower whatever bombed on Friday at 10 would be without the massive CBB lead in, probably half of those paltry 400k viewers were just people who fell asleep or left the channel on without watching what was on it.

Yep I predict there was a larger than usual +1 audience. Probably had 1 1m excl +1 like normal and then added 300k instead of the usual 150k.

What do we think tonight?

Twitter still exploding. Hundreds of tweets every 5 mins at the moment whilst the show is not on air. Never happens.

Also the "big tease" video they post a few hours before the show daily on Facebook (which usually gets around 50-80,000 views) is up to 420,000 views so far in 2 hours.

1.5m tonight? I know it's a Friday and it's even up against Celebrity Masterchef and an England friendly match but i think it will be at least what it got last night (1.4m). Would make it the highest summer Friday rating for an eviction since CBB18.

Because the complaints will give more ammunition to those at channel 5 who want it axed? CBB5 was probaably the year the show was most talked about, but I'd hardly say it was good for the brand.

There's a slight difference between a racism and bullying scandal that made international news, and a false accusation of violence that soap stars are talking about on Twitter

The reason CBB5 damaged the brand is because Channel 4 handled it so badly. They suppressed footage, didn't intervene early enough, and were eventually forced to broadcast an apology by Ofcom. Somehow I don't see that happening this time. They intervened, they've exposed Roxanne and cleverly allowed her keep digging, and not (that we know of) suppressed any footage.

You're kidding if you don't think Paul Osborne and Ben Frow are enjoying all this attention today. All press is good press - sometimes.

Yes but the reason I think it's bad news is because Ben Frow already wants rid of the brand. This would just be another nail in the coffin. Of course it's not on the same scale and wouldn't be as damaging, but I think it's negative for the show on the whole.

Also they're handling it pretty badly if you ask me. Tonight's trailer having more replies than likes on twitter due to people criticising the show implies people aren't particularly happy with the way producers are handling things.

Useless comparison, that was a whole different era, the show was at the height of its popularity at the time and in no danger of being cancelled. Now it needs all the viewers and publicity it can get, however it can get it, period.

He does but, in his words "I like the ratings" and if they're on the increase thanks to this, and it gets more column inches...I reckon he'll take it.

Why do you think they're handling it badly and what do you think they should have done differently? People on Twitter are dense and reactive, they were always going to fall over themselves demanding she be removed just like they do when someone uncovers something a housemate said six years ago. From a production and duty of care standpoint, if a housemate complaints that they were assaulted and feel threatened, they have to do something. They couldn't just turn around and accuse her of lying, that'd be a really bad look. Hence why they've aired the scene, shown her reaction, their response, and let the public make their minds up.

This. It sounds awful but she’s an absolute car crash that is attracting viewers. I will actually be surprised if she goes tonight as last night happened quite close to the eviction.
