IMO, the books are VERY overrated.

I'll checkout the film though.
Mainly because robert pattinson is exceptionally hot [cedric diggory in HP<3]
Might change my mind about the books but idk.

I've got the book, I've never read it though. The acting seems kinda dodgy in the trailer, all the vampires seem to talk in the same whispery growl which I find kinda funny.

This looks actually quite good. My friend has read the books and says it's as good as Harry Potter and she's a huge HP fan, so it must be good :)

MrGaryy
19-12-2008, 11:47 PM
Well it was good I have to say. They followed the book pretty well, though I have to say some bits were randomly and unnecessarily mixed up; such as half of what Edward told Bella in the car home was cut out and put in a different setting.

As I predicted the magic didn't quite translate to screen but the main actors playing the part of Edward and Bella did a fantastic job.

Overall, I'd give it 8/10, though had I not read the book I would've given it 9/10. I can't wait for the New Moon!

Callum
20-12-2008, 12:17 AM
I haven't read the book so I'm really optimistic now! I'm getting all the books for Christmas.

MarkWaldorf

I probably won't read the other books after Twilight. They aren't very good from what I've heard.

I'll just see the films!

I've attempted to read Twilight again today, I've started from the beggining and I've just finished the 'interrogations chapter'. It's quite an addictive book.

I can totally see why. Though the main Edward and Bella were both played well, the majority of the cast was badly cast and the acting was cringy at times (particularly Bella's friends and family).

Like Callum said, the special effect were, at times, poor and unrealistic. Such as Edward's skin turning glittery when in the sun, it looked like they just wiped a glitter glue on his face.

I still liked it, but only because I was a fan of the book. It's NOT the new Harry Potter (though I prefer the Tiwlight books).

Oh I'm quite dissapointed about the glow-y thing then, I was looking foward to see how they would do it. I've only got 6 chapters left to read now so I think i'm gonna polish it off tomorow.

MarkWaldorf
21-12-2008, 05:37 PM
Finally finished the book! :cheer: It was exciting to have some big events happen towards the end. It was pretty much three hundred pages of a build up. I really liked it though. I think I will read New Moon now.

I'm just a very very fast reader, plus i've had nothing to do this weekend.

I finished the book a few minutes ago, it's a great book i'm gonna have to go out and buy the rest of them now. I hope the Cullens get bigger parts in the other book as I really like Alice and Jasper.

I'm surprised i liked the book though as i ussually can't stand romance novels.

Hugo

Ooh. I forgot to post about the film.
It was a really great film, with great acting from the main characters. I think it did the book justice but when I came out I just felt it lacked somthing? I can't describe what it just lacked something. Overall I'd give it about 7.5/10. I will definetly see the rest of the films. I recommend it to anyone who has read the book and anyone that hasn't.

MarkWaldorf
21-12-2008, 05:52 PM
Have you read New Moon, Hugo?

Hugo
21-12-2008, 05:55 PM
Nope Mark, I don't, but I'm getting it for Christmas (hopefully) so I'll have it read it by this time next week :D I read quite fast lol.

MarkWaldorf
21-12-2008, 05:57 PM
Ohh, okay! I bought it for Christmas too.

My friend said it's really depressing compared to Twilight. She can't "re-read" it like she can the others. I hope it isn't that ****. lol

Hugo
21-12-2008, 05:58 PM
Oh! I don't mind depressing as long as its a good book. But I hope she didn't mean its so bad it makes you depressed LOL.

MarkWaldorf
21-12-2008, 06:00 PM
Oh no, haha. She probably meant like the storylines are depressing in the book or something.

Sarah.
21-12-2008, 06:07 PM
I actually really liked New Moon.. but I can see how people found it depressing. Jacob is a huge part of New Moon.

I loved it! It didn't drag at all and it was really well paced. They changed lots of things from the book though and there were even scenes I don't remember being in the book. Overall really good film and did the books justice. I'm reading New Moon now.

I'm absolutely obsessed with Twilight, I first read the books about a year ago. I finally saw the movie a few days ago, and it blew me away, AMAZING. Sorry, it's beaten Harry Potter for me. At least there is no Harry/Ginny in Twilight!

AUGH. I can’t– I just…My god. This is…

This is the cinematic equivalent of an asteroid about to hit the ****ing Earth, people. It’s huge, it’s ugly, it’s horrible, and if you have any sense at all you should run shrieking away from it as quickly as you can. And like any apocalyptic abomination that’s about to destroy culture and the last vestiges of what make humanity worth preserving, there are some mad, frothing maniacs who embrace the rapture and worship the coming doom. We’ve been fortunate enough so far to avoid a real Twilight fan invasion, because I’ve been on other message boards and you’ve not seen such a pack of rabid, snarling jagoffs so willing to engage in bitter, pointless flamewars over this.

It’s a perfect storm of co-mingling fan-worship, too. You’ve got the teenage girl demographic, infatuated with this…****ing vapid, vacant pasty-faced asshole, with that face you just want to ram into a men’s room doorknob until his teeth litter the ground like bloody chiclets. It’s not that he’s a pretty boy– we hate John Cena enough for that, I guess– it’s that garbage vampire-chic aura, that godawful brooding intensity, that mysterious “I’m the biggest, sexiest mistake you’d ever make, ladies, because I’m ****ing dangerous” scowl that makes all the women drool.

It’s got all those goth-heads hooked, too. Some people just never get tired of it. I promised myself I wouldn’t use the term “emo” unless it was absolutely necessary, but what else do you call an entire genre based around a pale, dreary bore who always drones on about his own existential angst, his eternal torment, his alienation from human society, and the constant struggle to contain the beast of his infinite rage forever crawling in his skin, lest it surface and harm those he loves? Come to think of it, what is with all of this vampire worship, anyway? Vampire stories are lame, and they were lame even when Anne Rice shat her oversexualized Mary Sue fiction all over bookstores. After that, we had to endure ****ing Anita Blake, and now this?

It boggles my mind to even imagine that, as bad as the Anita Blake stories are, Twilight is far, far worse. And all I did was read a sample chapter online. It’s so bad, that even hearing summaries of the plot can evoke snorts of derision. My mom used to watch daytime soaps that had less ham-handed melodrama and less-disturbing sexual liaisons. This madness has to stop, and if you don’t believe me, just keep watching. The Twilight movies are coming, and people, you are going to see some sad, depraved mother****ers buying enough tickets to keep it at #1 in the box office for months.

Had to be done

BigSister

Naw! I got half way through New Moon and stopped, so I'm as bad as you.

From what I've read, Breaking Dawn (fourth and final book) seems to be the one fans dislike most. Twilight > Eclipse > New Moon > Breaking Dawn from what I've heard.
