View Full Version : The most depressing movie you've ever seen?

For me it's gotta be Requiem For A Dream...

Especially Ellen Burstyn's role, I feel so bad for her. The other 3 were druggies to begin with, but she evolved into one under the belief that she'd be on what she obsesses over, TV. :'(

What's the most depressing movie you've ever seen?

Erm.. The Green Mile always makes me cry.

In terms of reflection on society though, I'd say KiDULTHOOD.

Requiem for a dream is a great film but I understand why you found it depressing. Films that depress me are the likes of Independence Day and titanic i.e. average films that are wildly overrated.

Elephant.

It is about a shooting at a school and is loosely based on the Colombine (sp) massacrer. Most of the people in it are not actors, they were students or teachers at the school where it was filmed and there was little in the way of a script, just ideas.

Stunning, but has no hope that this won't happen again and again.

If you don't get on with slow films don't bother with this. You will hate it.

Bambi was very depressing as well, but i don't cry at it.

Irreversible.

This is one of the most walked-out films in the history of the Cannes Film Festival.

It is banned in it's uncut form in a number of countries due to one particularly brutal scene.

It is told in reverse chronograph order and is a French language film.

It is in my top 10 films and I thoroughly recommend it. It is brutal from the off. You have been warned.

The Notebook ;; I sit with a tub of Ben and Jerry's and just cry my eyes out.

Stepmom ;; Brilliant movie with the fabulous Julia Roberts but the ending is horrible but in a kind of nice way -- still depressing though.

The 9/11 movie (can't remember what it's called) ;; Obviously

I am a fool for a sad film.. I watch them to make myself cry and get the boohoos out.

Ones that always work for this are:

A Walk to Remember -
The reason I cry is when she dies and he is so young and lost his wife and its just soooo sad how he tried to complete her list of things to do before dying.. Also poem of what love is, beautiful. Cry everytime.

The Green Mile -
Cry all the way through as I feel soooo sorry for John Koffee, being chased by people with pitch forks etc and he can see all this pain in the world and unable to help a lot. Also cry when he heels the guys wife and she is like "I seen you in my dreams"

Atonement -
When he is taken away at the beginning and blamed for raping someone and she had just admitted her love

P.S. I love you -
I cry because I put myself in that situation and how I would feel if my man died so young and I cry when she is standing at his little fort and is unable to be in Ireland again with him.

The Notebook -
Cry when you just see Noah building this house from nothing only because he promised someone he loved six years before hand, never knowing if he would ever see her again. Also cried at the end when Ali forgets who he is again and he just bubbles away crying because his loved one doesnt remember him.. breaks my heart actually getting upset writing this.

Titanic -
I cry where others dont in this film, I cry when you see all the lower class people being trapped and unable to get on life boats etc and all the higher class and richer people get to live. That upsets me.

Crash -
Cry at the end when he reaches into his pocket to get the same little statue and the police officer shoots him as he doesnt trust him only because of what other police officers have said against the black community. That actually killed me as well. That whole film is really sad how all the lives interlink. Genius.

American History X -
Cry at the end where the younger brother is finished his essay and has decided that he is going to move on with his life like his brother who is his idol - then gets shot because of his past. Mainly cried as I imagined that it was my little brother who died so i was in hysterics with tears and actually screaming.. god i am too emotional

Moulin Rouge -
Cry when she dies at the end and they dont get a proper chance to be with each other.

Forest Gump -
Cry the whole way through this one as well mainly because I feel sooo sorry for him and he sticks by Jenny even though she is messed up and he is just so naive to life. And then he has to watch his best mate die in his arms and just everything is so sad. He is so simple which makes you wana look after him and then you just get upset.

Beaches -
Cries when her friend dies and she realises what love and friendship is about

Brokeback Mountain -
Cry when he doesnt get to find out how he died properly and how he is going to have a life alone without his best mate

Billy Elliott -
Cry when the dad and brother break down in each others arms in the snow because they cant provide for billy properly and realise that they are soo poor and need to be there for billy.. male bonding.. kills me

And a few others.. I know none of you asked why I cried at each one and why they upset me but I am bored and its 4.15am in the morning so you are getting my life story of emotion! haha

I am actually so down now.. God dam this thread!

I did warn you..... it one of the reasons why I'm against the death penalty. It's a clip that has haunted me ever since I saw it.

The only other thing I can think is similar on it effect on me was a TV Drama called Threads (Watch it here (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2023790698427111488)) about nuclear war and the effects on the UK.
