If Mary Byrne wins, will she kill off the X Factor like Michelle McManus killed Pop Idol?

Mary's an entirely different kettle of fish to Michelle McManus. Mary appeals to a completely different generation and really, why shouldn't that generation be represented? It would be so boring if we were fed the same old bland teen pop with every act... I like that there's a range of people on there and even though I would never buy anything they did, lots of people would.

I love Michelle McManus for all the wrong reasons.

A few years ago, me and a few friends decided to play Pound Shop Secret Santa. We found a copy of Michelle's album there. :D

I don't think Michelle killed Pop Idol - Simon took it to America, where it's still successful, and replaced ours with The X Factor.

No... Michelle was way better than Mary. She seemed quite nice too.

Dunno, the biggest talent seems to be coming from the people that DON'T win the show these days. You don't hear from the winners for a good year (if at all)

Mary won't win though, she'll come 3rd-7th. She reminds me a lot of the Brummie from Leon's year whose name I can't seem to remember.

I love how people are so obsessed with their weight, surely if they can sing then why does it matter? Have we not got enough plastic, anorexic and lifeless popstars out there? Surely when you buy the music, you buy it because they can sing and you like it, not because they are easy on the eye?

I think a lot of those who are obsessed with weight are the same ones obsessed with age. They think all the contestants should be teenagers singing pop songs.

I think Adele is a good example of a pop singer. She's not a stick insect.

However Mary is just a middle aged karaoke singer. She will not sell records.

She will not sell records to you, maybe. My parents, however, love Mary! I don't think she's going to win the show, but she's carving out a career for herself and she'll never go back to working on a checkout. There are more people in the UK over 60 than there are under 20. She has a market and she'll do okay. Not everything in the world has to be aimed at one generation.

Tbf thats because they now wait to launch their careers around the following years Xfactor. Like Joe's doing now and Alex did. Which apparently(in theory anyways) gives them time to put together a qaulity album. In the past they would usually throw out any old album filled with covers.

It worked for Leona and Alex. But it does give the losers a chance to get in there first and release their own music. Like JLS did to huge success.

Mary will be in Blood Brothers in a year.
