Was it their own dog?

I don't think it was Niamh, judging by the newspaper's terminology, but I have been trying to find out - with no success.

It infuriates me that yet another baby is needlessly dead and another seriously injured due to yet another breed of dog:

Detectives later confirmed that the dog responsible was an American Bulldog - a breed which is not on the Government’s Dangerous Dogs list.

In 2015 it was revealed that hospital admissions for injuries caused by dogs in England increased by 76% over ten years.

Over the past decade there have been at least 21 deaths, including 14 children or babies caused by dangerous dogs.

The 1991 Dangerous Dog Act was passed in response to an increased number of attacks in England. It made it a criminal offence to allow a dog to be 'dangerously out of control' in a public space.

In 2014 the act was extended to include dogs on private property and another law was introduced to enable police, council officials and social housing landlords to issue community protection notices, known as 'dogbos', if owners failed to bring their dogs under control.

New very hard laws need to be brought in for dog owners.

Dogs are not a fashion accessory, which a lot of owners think they are, they're a responsibility.


Also in my area I'm noticing dog mess making a comeback in a big way. New fines of a minimum £1000 should be brought in, they'd soon think twice about not cleaning it up then.

The baby boy was just 4 months old.
I assume the Dog viewed that baby as a threat.

Dog belonged to a policewomen so not their dog

mother was in bath at the time...

A dog is only as violent as its owner allows it to be, a dog that is loved and cared for is not likely to ever attack a human.

and of course we will never know what happened just prior to the attack

Must just not be a lot of busy bodies in your area then.

I get into arguments at least twice a week with people who go out of their way to open their window or come to their gate as I'm walking passed with my dogs and demand that I pick up after them when they haven't even done anything or if they have done something I've cleaned up after them as I always carry a bag. It's ridiculous.

But that's trivial compared to the subject of the thread. Poor baby, rest in peace :(
