Indian protesters have started burning effigies in the street over the Celebrity Big Brother reality television show.
The programme sparked controversy after claims that housemates were racially abusing an Indian contestant.
Reports of the alleged mistreatment of Bollywood starlet Shilpa Shetty, 31, ran on the front pages of several Indian newspapers.
The top story on television news in the country repeatedly showed clips from the show of the weeping actress.
India's government also plans to protest with British authorities over the 'abuse', an official said.
"We are awaiting a report about the show. The government will take appropriate measures once it gets to know the full details," said Anand Sharma, India's junior minister for external affairs.
Speaking in New Delhi, he said India has consistently opposed racism and discrimination around the world.
"Racism has no place in civilized society," he added.
