Geri Halliwell from The Spice Girls has been arrested by anti-terrorism officers on charges of "planning a terror attack".
Miss Halliwell, known as "Ginger Spice," was arrested in the early hours of this morning after she had completed a Spice Girls concert in London. A police spokesperson said that Miss Halliwell has been "under observation for some time."
The exact details are yet to be made clear but the arrest is most likely part of the government's implementation of Anti-Terror Laws and its growing concern about British citizens turning to Islamic extremism.
There have been strong rumours that Geri Halliwell has been voicing "sympathy" for insurgents in Iraq and Afghanistan and before the start of the Spice Girls reunion tour had flown to Pakistan to "visit a friend."
Music industry insiders have also stated that on more than one occassion Miss Halliwell wanted to dedicate the Spice Girls song, "Wannabe" to "Uncle Osama."
In a brief statement, Prime Minister Gordon Brown said that the police should be allowed to carry out their investigations before "any conclusions about members of The Spice Girls can be made."
The other members of The Spice Girls have not given formal statements to the press although Victoria Beckham has told a friend that on more than one occassion she had to tell Miss Halliwell that wearing a hijab didn't really fit in with the image of The Spice Girls.
The police are to issue a formal statement tomorrow.
