I mean they do also kill the vast majority of healthy animals in their "care" and have been caught essentially kidnapping people's dogs from their gardens and cats off the street...

OK for those of you who said it's wrong because there are kids- where do you think their meat is coming from? We get so disconnected from what we eat on our plates because we buy them in pretty packages, not having to deal with raising and killing animals. I eat meat but I think it's completely valid that if you do eat meat, you should understand where your meat is coming from.

PETA are the ****ing worst, hypocritical too considering they put a startlingly high number of animals to death in their shelters. It's all stunts and no substance with them and this stunt is just plain stupid. There's a difference between pets and livestock and it's that difference that completely invalidates PETA's 'point'. Nobody, regardless of the animal would eat it if they considered it a pet.

This is just shock tactics to get their name in the press again. PETA are the Katie Hopkins/Piers Morgan of charities.

This point bothers ms, there's a major difference between violence in a video game and violence in real life. You can blow someone's head off in a game but not be affected before it's simulated and you don't experience the true horror that you would if you witnessed someone's head being taken off in real life.

The dog might have been fake but the kids wouldn't have known that, they would have seen a dog being barbecued in front of them and thought it was real.

I'm a vegetarian and I think it's wrong to show something like that to 3/4/5 year olds and even older. it's like something out if a horror film. As a parent you decide what your child eats, so unless you're prepared to allow them decide to not eat meat after they see bloodied slaughtered animals like the one in the OP then no I wouldn't be showing them that and then forcing a pork chop down their throats

I think it's easy to observe this effect with TV / movies vs real life recordings even. You can watch people being beheaded and gutted on telly all day long, but when you see an actual death on something like LiveLeak - or if you've been unfortunate enough to witness a death in real life, the horrible fight-or-flight adrenaline spike and just that feeling of "dread" in your gut is completely different. The difference in reaction is on a really basic, instinctual level but if a "fake" is convincing enough and the person observing it isn't aware, the emotional response in that moment is going to be exactly the same as if it was real.

That said - I showed my eldest a video of chicks being "sorted" - the females for egg cages, the males basically put into a giant blender - strays being thrown around and sort of... mashed... into giant vats, and she found it hilarious. Raising a little sociopath .

All that said you can still.sit and gape at your telly and go online on it and repeatedly.watch someone's head being blown off for real. I wonder what percentage of COD over 21 game players have watched **** like that.

All I'm saying is people are perfectly fine eating animals that are stuffed into cages, pumped with steroids so they can't walk, and living in their own bodily fluids, yet go crazy when they see a fake dog on a barbecue. If they are mad about this, they really shouldn't be a meat eater. And this is coming from a meat eater

PETA did it with the intent to shock. Is that a good or bad idea .... I personally don't think that shocking the public with some gruesome sight will change eating habits in any way as the gruesomeness is disconnected from what is presented on the dining table. So I would consider it a fail.

I don’t see the hypocrisy.Just because (in the west) we have some animals for food and some for other things. We don’t have to eat every animal just because we eat some.
If they’d shown that poster in China it wouldn’t even be shocking. They eat Guinea Pigs in Peru,The Romans ate mice.We Don’t.It depends on the culture and what was readily available and what meats make the best food.

Never understood this argument.

‘You eat cows so you must eat pets too or you shouldn’t be eating meat’

Makes no sense to me.

I don't think the hypocrisy is in people in the west not eating every animal on the planet, it's more in people's outrage at the image of a dog on the bbq but being perfectly fine with the image of a pig on a spit roast. Saying that I do think PETA are a bit ott... Even if the thought of them just grilling a dog as the onlookers watch is disgust and the children weep has me SCREAMING

Well to be fair, they've also gone for the shock value of just showing an entire dog, fur 'n' all, on a barbeque... the people who eat them do tend to butcher them like we do with cows and piggies etc.

I think it would still be pretty shocking here to see an entire cow on a bonfire, eyes bubbling out of its skull . Or like... a whole unplucked chicken roasting in an oven.

That would actually be some pretty effective vegan advertising. They should hire me .

Well yeah there is that.PETA were just being totally unrealistic.

Even if you eat dog you’re not gonna eat the fur and paws.

People will see it and think ‘Ew that’s awful,I’m never gonna eat a dog now’ then go and grab a Quarter Pounder with Cheese on their way home.

Again, I agree with you if you're talking about adults who make decisions on what they eat but kids don't (generally)
