Whereas Stephanie is prepared to criticise Jonas to his face when she diagrees with him, what does Jonas do when she disagrees with Sov (over the cigarettes)?
He nominates her for being selfish but then caves in to give her one when he said he wouldn't. The guy is a hypocrite and in Stephanie's words "a sucker". |

After he put Sov through that awful punishment, you'd think he would go easy on her.
He is a cowardly back stabber, and shows no loyality to the people who are nice to him. |

fair enough to give her a cigarette if he has sympathy for her, but then why nominate her? sorry to disagree but for me it is completely hypocritical. |

When Sov gets evicted she gonna focus on one thing, Jonas. All she think about is him being 2 faced and go on and on and on about that. It will be all his fault in her mind, cos Chavs think like that.

As a swede I think I have any idea of what's behind Jonas' reasoning, even if I think it was wrong to nominate Sisqo and Sov. The so called "Jante Law" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jante_Law) has a stronger influence on the scandinavian mind than what people think. Bragging and acting selfishly is not considered "nice" in large parts of Scandinavia, especially in the north and in the more religious areas. You are supposed to mind your own business and don't pretend that you are better than anyone else. It's both good and bad, of course. For Jonas it probably means that when he goes back to Sweden his achievements will not be as recognized as they would have been elsewhere, but it also means that he can go to a local bar without being disturbed, even if he's recognized by everyone. The law itself are more a summary of our collective mind, than guidelines we struggle to follow.

Thank you, it was very interesting! Jante Law is typical for any small town I suppose.... but Jonas doesn´t strike me as small-townish... I think your interpretation of Jante Law applies to him better than the one in the link you provided.

Yes, it's more obvious in small towns. However, I think it's more like an ideal similar to "political correctness", but cultural. Interviewing scandinavian athletes must be boring indeed. Everyone is so terribly "quite pleased". Jonas is a mystery though. In an old interview on Youtube he looks real shy. In fact, his mother talks more than he does. I think he's struggled to become more self-confident and those over-act from time to time.
