School pupils Emily Pounde and Hannah Jagger arrived at their Year 11 prom in Somerset dressed as Barbie dolls in display boxes.
Shocked classmates watched the 16-year-olds arrive at Haselbury Mill in two 6ft x 2ft plywood and perspex boxes on the back of a trailer.
Pounde told The Daily Telegraph: "It was like being famous, although I'm not sure I'd want to do it again - maybe if people take less photographs then I would, I didn't know where to look!"
Pounde's mother Christine spent £250 ($387) on materials to make the hand-painted boxes, complete with fairy lights.
The schoolgirl - who attends Wadham School in Crewkerne, Somerset - explained where the inspiration came from, saying: "Hannah and I thought of the idea together, and it suddenly became reality when mum liked it too. We wanted to do something different, and I really loved Barbies when I was little.
"It is something I will never forget. The further we got into the car park, the more people stopped and noticed. Suddenly everybody surrounded us and took photos. I came out of the box shaking, so many people were taking pictures."
