For he past couple of weeks I have been yearning for the return of Liz Truss.
YES, that bad. Starmer has to be the worst PM ever. He doesn't even look or sound like a PM. In a few weeks, he's robbed the pensioners to pay the already hefty paid train drivers. The guy is a clown, and a dangerous clown. He's accepted posh suits and underpants and specs off a rich business guy who's given loads of money to Labour. When I hear people grovelling to Starmer calling him a Sir. Stuff that. He doesn't deserve an honour. I heard his speech this morning. Horrific man. |

I'm not at all pleased at the start that's being made.
I still don't like the winter fuel payment issue However the OBR and IFS again state it's a terrible legacy inherited which was known admittedly. I lost count of the times in the election where I stated to potential voters, that the chaos left after 14 years of shambolic government was going to be horrendous. It's odd how Labour after 8 weeks in power are criticised for pointing out the mess of the Cons over 14 years The Cons for goodness sake were still going on about the mess they inherited in 2010, still on about it even this year. I'm unhappy with the government, I and others will moan at conference and point out wrongs. However there is a massive mess left from even just the last 5 years. There are hard choices to make. It seems Starmer will not make the better choices to deal with the mess. I'll only judge the government though, on where we are at or heading in around 2 to 3 years time As I did with the Coalition when it came in. There's no fair comparison that can be made from 14 years of mismanagement after only 2 months barely in government. |

i think it's the fact that everyone was saying that labour would need to raise funds somehow to fund their plans and Starmer obfuscated at a minimum on what would come down the road with a labour government. I'm not even saying that the tories wouldn't have done exactly the same, but it's treating the public like fools. In fact, if labour had said upfront that they were going to cut the fuel allowance for pensioners before the election, there is a pretty strong possibility they may not have won

For being a universal payment. However we as canvassers for Labour were assured pensioners would be protected. So I'm still furious that my assurances to the pensioners I talked to have now been discounted. I actually think however they would have still won. All I found in the campaign was the majority of voters just wanted the Cons out. Most realised the certain way to do that was to vote Labour. It is a sort of unwritten rule, IF as a government you need to do unpopular things Then do them as early into government as possible. I still am not happy though that the winter fuel payment issue has arisen. I don't think it should have been done until ALL entitled to pension credit are getting it. Pulling this payment now, when even the government admits at least 800,000+ are entitled to it but haven't claimed it I think is frankly a cruel and wrong policy. BBC News Text :
[The Daily Mirror’s coverage of Sir Keir Starmer’s speech also looks at concerns over the potential consequences of getting rid of the winter fuel payment for many elderly people. “There will be horror stories about people who can’t afford to heat their homes over winter,” predicts Dennis Reed, head of the pensioner campaign group Silver Voices.] |

BBC News Text:
[“German deal to ‘turn the corner’ on Brexit” is the main headline on the front page of the Times, referring to comments expected to be made by Sir Keir Starmer as he begins to his attempts to negotiate a new trade deal with Germany on Wednesday. The PM, who will meet with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, is hoping to gain British businesses priority access to the German economy in what he calls a “once-in-a-generation" opportunity. A source has told the Times that discussions will focus on tackling issues that currently cause difficulties for businesses, which include gaining certifications.] |

BBC News Text:
[The i newspaper also focusses on the PM's hopes to improve Brexit relations with Germany and also with France – both founding members of the EU that, the paper says, “remain at the heart of the economic alliance”. According to Sir Keir, putting the UK, Germany and France into “lockstep” will help them work better together on issues including the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East. While a trade deal with Germany is expected to take several months, a new defence pact is expected to be finalised in the autumn.] |
