Default Nurse critically injured in stabbing at Greater Manchester hospital A&E…

A nurse is in a critical condition after she was stabbed in a hospital A&E in a suspected attempted murder, police said.

The nurse was on duty at the Royal Oldham hospital, in Greater Manchester, when she was attacked with a sharp instrument at about 11.30pm on Saturday night.

Greater Manchester police (GMP) said the woman, in her 50s, was being treated for “life-changing” injuries.

A 37-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder and remained in police custody, the force said.

GMP said it did not believe there was a threat to the wider public and that it was not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident. Detectives have launched a major investigation into the attack and its potential motive.

It is understood the nurse was set upon with a sharp instrument – not a knife – in the busy A&E department of the hospital, eight miles north-east of Manchester.

DS Craig Roters, from GMP’s Oldham district, said: “This is a serious incident, which has left a woman in a critical condition. Our thoughts are with her family and colleagues, and we will continue to support them throughout this investigation.

“The local community can expect to see an increase in police presence whilst we carry out inquiries, but they are also there to offer reassurance and answer any questions you may have. We know that news of this nature will come as a shock, and if you have any concerns or anything you would like to share, please speak to them.”

…this article is more up to date @bots …..

A woman has suffered life-changing injuries after being stabbed by a member of the public at the accident and emergency department where she was working.

The victim - believed to be a nurse in her 50s - was attacked at Royal Oldham Hospital in Greater Manchester, where she is now being treated.

It is understood she was injured with a bladed article or a sharp instrument - and not by a knife.

Officers were called at 11.30pm on Saturday.

A 37-year-old man is in custody after being "swiftly arrested at the scene" on suspicion of attempted murder, Greater Manchester Police said.

Detectives are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident and say there is no threat to the wider public.

Staff are "incredibly shocked", said Heather Caudle, chief nursing officer at Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust.

They are "saddened by last night's incident and our focus is on supporting the colleague involved and their family", she added.

"Our thoughts are also with colleagues and patients who were there at the time of the incident and for whom this has been distressing and frightening.

"All services at Royal Oldham Hospital remain open."

Jim McMahon, the Labour MP for the area, described it as a "senseless attack".

He posted on Facebook: "We are all shocked at the senseless attack on a nurse in the A&E department of the Royal Oldham Hospital.

"Our thoughts are with the nurse, family and friends, as we wish a full recovery."

Detective Sergeant Craig Roters said it was a "serious incident which has left a woman in a critical condition".

The victim's family and colleagues will be supported, he added.

The local community can expect to see an "increase in police presence" while enquiries are carried out, Mr Roters said.

"We know that news of this nature will come as a shock, and if you have any concerns or anything you would like to share, please speak to [officers]."

…an horrendous attack by a ‘member of the public’ and the injuries are life changing apparently…there are still very few details being released but it’s thank the Lord that the attack didn’t claim multiple victims…but the mental impact/trauma from all who were present and witnessed also is a ‘life changing’ thing…

Rumon Haque is the perpetrator.

Seems to be a Bangladeshi name.

How lovely.

…apparently the weapon used was a pair of scissors…it really does highlight the vulnerability of medical staff in A and E…(…and working in other areas as well…)…

Nurse suffers ‘life-changing’ injuries after being stabbed with scissors at hospital

A nurse was left with life-changing injuries after being stabbed with a pair of scissors in hospital, it has emerged.

The woman, in her 50s, was left in critical condition after the attack at Royal Oldham Hospital at around 11:30pm on Saturday, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.

Initial reports said the attack was carried out with a sharp instrument that was not a knife. GMP later revealed the weapon was a pair of scissors.

A 37-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in custody. Detectives are not looking for anyone else in connection to the incident.

Oldham district’s Detective Sergeant Craig Roters said that the police would continue to provide support to the victim’s colleagues and family throughout the investigation.

He added that the local community could expect an “increase in police presence” while they carry out enquires, adding: “they are also there to offer reassurance and answer any questions you may have.

So now all hospital staff will have to keep scissors out of sight, just what you need in a busy A and E
