[A $200m telecommunications satellite
set to be used as part of a Facebook
scheme is destroyed after
a launchpad "anomaly".
SpaceX said no-one was injured
in the blast, and blamed
an "anomaly" on the launch
pad for the explosion.]

The problem with these New Rockets
made by the Private Sector
is they are Full of Fuel.

This is just yet another
set back by SpaceX.

Would I invest in them?
Hell No

Not supposed to be. Was a test launch for the satellite they are getting ready to send to ISS I think.

This is why we need to restore our space program budget and just let our heros at NASA Houston handle this

NASA have contracted SpaceX and another company to do most of their manned launches in the next few years. so this undermines that, and calls into question whether they can do it safely.

Its a stroke of good fortune and probably a serious wake up call. Lessons will no doubt be learnt.

To be fair, these are test flights... it seems they consider this landing a "success" (as in, a step forward) even though it then blew up. It's not a disaster or unexpected when a test fails, it's an expected part of the process.

"Random" anomalies like the one described in the OP (years back) are of more concern, obviously.

That said, I do feel like when you're packing a chunk of metal full of rocket fuel and attempting to blast it into outer space... ... ... it's not really "shocking" when it ends up exploding, is it...?

Yes the Flame,
was leaking on the lower side
so we could see it coming.

It is shocking for those rich folk who have
booked a Future flight.

i don't think so. These folks know the deal, they are looking for a new, sensational experience, and risk is very much a part of the attraction

I would imagine they won't launch a celebrity flight until it is (reasonably) safe - which is why they do all the testing .

Plenty of crashes and explosions before they launched the first commercial passenger jet... Now thousands are in the air every day.

Less with the covids of course
