The Green Party leader has admitted that she still has a gas boiler despite her party’s commitment to reach net zero by 2040. Ms Denyer, who is standing in Bristol Central, told ITV’s The Leader Interviews: “At the moment I have a gas boiler Heat pumps have been criticised for failing to properly warm larger, older properties and for being noisy, as well as being expensive. Heat pump installation typically costs between £10,000 and £15,000, compared to £2,000 to £4,000 for replacing a gas boiler. A frequent flyer levy and a ban on short domestic flights are also part of the party’s manifesto pledges to cut emissions by individuals. Ms Denyer told ITV the transition to a low-carbon economy would mean “certain activities will cost more” https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics...not-heat-pump/ |

Related to the issue. Emma Thompson is the biggest hypocrite of them all. It's as if she is secretly taking the p***. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbi...00m-yacht.html |

I really don't know what it is but somehow I have little liking for this Green co-leader.
I haven't been impressed any time I've watched or listened to her. Last edited by joeysteele; 24-06-2024 at 01:20 PM. |

When pushed further to answer why, surely her answer was simply "Because heat pumps are rubbish".
Our clapped-out ancient 1970's hot water tank system boiler finally gave up last year and it's the first time I've been glad that our landlord is a massive cheapskate - because the rental agency priced up both a "state of the art" heat pump and economical low-energy-use hot water tank system, with the other option being a cheap 'n' cheerful new gas multipoint boiler. They went with the cheaper option and we got the gas multipoint. Unlimited hot water!! Yasss. It feels like it was a blip in history. We used to have oldschool water tanks where the water ran out... then we had a few glorious decades of instant hot water... and now we've gone back to "new age" water tanks . |

We just got a heat pump, I think it's pretty quiet actually, constant hot water and the house is a nice temperature all the time

When you say "just got", though... didyou have it before winter? Remember that they work by literally pumping heat from one place to another (anything above absolute zero is, technically, heat). Supposedly they still work fine in lower outdoor temperatures (but use more energy). In practice... they don't work as well in winter if the temperature drops significantly.

A politican who's a hypocrite - who could see that coming?!
But yeah, she and the Lib Dem lady have done a good job in convincing me to just scribble on my ballot paper instead of voting for one of their parties. Their performances in the debates make my teeth itch.

Into winter now and it's working great, much better than any other system I've used. This house is really well insulated though, we did it all ourselves

We have a heat pump and it is a bit noisy but because we live in the country it's a little way from the house. Couldn't have had one when I lived in London, it would have been impractical. I live in an old property but my house is very well, insulated, like Niamh's. It was a **** about to have it installed though.

We're going to be buying next year and I'm genuinely concerned that wherever we buy will have some fancy-arse "eco friendly" hot water tank system, just when I'm getting used to having hot water on-demand for the first time in 10 years. I mean, it's not going to be a deal breaker on the house we buy... but... I would miss it.
Cannot wait to be out of this absolute hole though . |

We love the area we live in Cherie, I'm talking about the house itself, we do our best with it but with two teenagers we've outgrown it and also the landlord does not give a stuff about the property so the maintenance is bare minimum, and the amount we're willing to spend on a house we don't own is limited. After 10 years that stacks up. The place needs thousands spent on it, probably 5 figures.
We've lived here a decade and I don't even know what the fella who owns it looks like . He's just not interested, I reckon he'll sell once we're out. All set to buy now though so just waiting for the right house... |

…I’ve really always liked how the home buying system in Scotland works in that once the offer is put in and accepted, it’s legally binding …so it takes away that big stress factor of the possibility of the chain falling through/collapsing etc…

We're in a good position though because we have large deposit, relatively high household income and in very stable employment, and no chain "below" so we don't have to worry about selling... just the buying. Ideally if we find a property that also isn't in a chain, that massively simplifies the process (and also makes us attractive buyers to the seller, our funds are good to go, not dependent on any other buyer). Less than one in ten chains fail in Scotland though, apparently in England it's like 25% which is insane. |
