I hope this doesn't sound heartless or inappropriate, but I'm not surprised he's died.
He's always been a bit overweight but I saw him about three weeks ago on Plank of the Week, Talk TV, and James Whale was on there with Salmond, and I'm not joking, Salmond looked about 22 stone. Very sad but as we get older we should keep our bodies in trim. RIP. |

[The former first minister of Scotland
and titan of Scottish politics Alex Salmond has died. The Scottish nationalist stalwart was giving a speech in North Macedonia this morning. STV News understands he died at some point after the event. Twice leader of the SNP, it was Salmond who took Scottish National Party from the political and electoral fringe to mainstream player and eventually to government.] [In the process he led the Yes movement in the 2014 independence referendum, coming within ten percentage points of busting a three hundred year old Union.] STV |

He's been a huge part of Scottish politics.
He's made an incredible mark on politics across the board too. This is a really big and sad shock. R.I.P. |

This has actually hit me this news.
There are some people in politics immaterial of the Party they are from, who mean a lot to politics People you think will be there no matter what. Alex Salmond is such an individual. Politics has lost what was a really strong force as to it today. |

Both those headlines are accurate.
He was totally dominant in Scottish politics. However at Westminster too as an MP. Thereby a strong political voice across the UK. Then too Internationally too, those 2 headlines cannot be denied as to him. |
