I don't know if I'm going to technically break any rules here just showing this, but I feel like I want to make sure that nobody on here faces what I nearly faced, basically someone (or some group,) rang me around 15 hours ago, and I nearly answered the call, thinking that it might be a family member who wants to tell me that they've got a new Phone, so add this number to my contacts.

However I saw that the location was from Wigan, and I don't have a family member that lives in Wigan, so basically I typed in the phone number (which I don't know if I am allowed to say the number on the thread directly,) so I'll let this link to a very good website for information about this particular scam do the talking https://who-called.co.uk/Number/01942901140

Basically don't ring this number, and don't answer the call from this number if they try to contact you, and don't worry they will try to contact you multiple times, but just ignore them, they are scammers.

Hopefully nobody on here has already been scammed by these people, but I just want to make sure that you never do get scammed by these people by showing you proof.

My elderly aunt was partially scammed recently by someone purporting to be from 02, she thought nothing more of it until a new Iphone 15 arrived and a sim card so she reported it to O2 as she had not ordered this, who are virtually useless and still have not sorted it, then a bill arrived for 60.00, we couldnt figure out what the scam was as she had the phone and she cancelled the DD but on talking to my neighbour she was scammed 14 months ago in the same way but on receiving the phone she received a message to say this had been sent to her in error and could she forward it to this address in West Bromich which unfortunately she did...then she found out she had two contracts with only one phone luckily for my aunt somewhere along the line the communication from the scammers stopped and she has the phone, if O2 dont sort this soon she will start using it herself with her own sim card these people are just scum of the earth and O2 are no better as it looks like this scam has been going on for years

That's a horrible scam.

I had Anniek last week calling a few times - once was about a Crypto scheme and the other time it was late and there was a big silence and then (I knew it was her) the voice shouted "who does yer tampons??"

I have reported the number to BT a few times to no avail

With the number of scams there are these days, we are all walking a tight rope.

Years ago, i had a debit card that got cloned, and that took me a couple of years to recover from with all the agreements that had been taken out on the back of it

I recall going out to clubs in my youth and after dancing with a fine lady and giving her the old "sexy stare" i would boogie up to the lady and ask for her phone number

Often they would reply..

It's shocking how sneaky these scammers are getting, this scam sounds a bit similar to a whatsapp one that was around not long ago... they would pretend to be the victims child and say something along the lines of

" hello mum i have dropped my phone down the toilet, please contact me on this number"


........ but when you actually called their bluff by trying to have a conversation with them, it's either nonsensical emoji's or just broken English.

Apparently scams about fake jobs are harassing people through whatsapp aswell.

I never answer the phone, even if it’s somebody I know. If it’s important they’ll leave a voice message or send me a WhatsApp.

Had a few rando’s message on WhatsApp which come from various country codes like Indonesia, Myanmar, Mexico and USA which I block straight away.

I recall last year I was watching the TV series Tehran, and in one part somebody got stuck in Iran and couldn’t leave the county and I was talking to my OH about how they could try escape to Iraq. Literally a few mins later I had an unknown number call my phone from Iran. Obvs I didn’t answer but they left a voice message which was pretty much silent but you could hear voices in the distance (couldn’t make out what they were saying). It freaked me out I turned my phone off and left it in the kitchen.

…I do answer calls of those I know but I rarely answer an unknown number when one comes through…I’ll always just see if a message is left as for genuine calls with me, there’s usually a follow up message…then I’ll return the call if it require it…

This time they were claiming to be from Stevenage.

I'm on my phone at the moment so I can't post a link to prove that it's a scam.

They're based in Stevenage pretending to be EE.

I'm not sure if I can give out the Phone number in case I end up getting infracted.

I don't know what TIBB's rules are like on things like this.

So the two signs to look out for.

1. If they're from Stevenage.

And 2. They claim to be EE.

Someone just recently tried this with my mam, luckily we caught it before anything had been sent out and we cancelled the other number on the account.
