He isn't changed at all either, he still quite blatantly has alcohol issues and he was passive-aggressive throughout the show and quite often looked like a balloon ready to pop... I very much doubt he would have remained so "calm" if there weren't dozens of cameras pointed at him.
I didn't know his personal life or career history, and thought he was one of the better ones in the house. I really needed him to win when it was down to him vs Dappy. With this new info though, thats like the worst final 2 ever!

"We all have flaws"

We all have arseholes too but that's not relevant either.

The guy is one very funny person and this program was highly enjoyable.

Although using violence against a woman can NEVER be condoned, it does seem that Alison Holloway's graphic accounts of the violence he perpetrated against her in their 18 months long marriage is an isolated period in his life because no other wives or any of the hundreds of women he has had 'relationships' with have complained of anything similar - as far as I am aware.

Davidson insists that Alison was also violent during this marriage, and other possible mitigation for this violent period is that he was drug and alcohol-addled at that time.

The guy seemed honest and forthright about his past mistakes and SHOULD be given credit for 'turning his life around' and beating his alcohol and drug problems - just as ANYONE who has done the same should.

As for him being 'Racist' AND 'Homophobic', I find it strange that he numbers both black AND Gay people among his friends - a lot of them life-long friends.

Honest, fair and unbiased analysis of his controversial 'Chalkie' comedy routine can ONLY show that it is a warm impersonation carried out with obvious affection and bears no trace of malicious REAL racism.

His West Indian voice sketches are no different from Russ Abbot's Scotsman impressions with that exaggerated Glaswegian accent - "See you, Jimmy".

As for the derogatory term, ' Shirt-Lifter', Davidson ADMITTED that is was wrong, was obviously remorseful and said that he had never used the term again.

He also belongs to a generation when such terms were (wrongfully) commonplace, as were terms like 'Poofter' and 'Nancy-Boy'.

This does not EXCUSE his remark to Brian Dowling nor the offence which it caused, but - again - it appears to have been one isolated incident in a long life, and after all, he has NOT eaten live babies or murdered a nun.

His children, friends, current wife and the other of his ex-wives, ALL paint a very different picture of Jim Davidson to that portrayed by his detractors.

According to them, he is warm, loving, kind, generous, charitable, and a caring, as well as a good husband and terrific father.

Then there is the considerable amount of time and money which he has always donated to our Armed Forces - free concerts, forming his own Charity etc.

No, Jim Davidson is no 'Racist', No 'Homophobe' and NO 'Monster'.

Instead, he is, like the REST of us, merely a FLAWED human being, and if I - for one - want to see a 'Plaster Saint', I will go to church.

Of course, it is a person's right to 'like' someone' or 'dislike' them so I don't expect everyone to agree with me, it is just my rightful opinion on a forum of which I am a member.

This very funny person asked disabled audience members in the front row of his show to move as his material specifically mocked disabled people.

Whether or not the period was isolated making excuses for those who use other people as whipping posts or sounding boards due to their addiction is not right.

He does not deserve credit, he admitted throwing a bunch of keys then stated he didn't mean to do it... that is not an acknowledgement nor an apology. He deserves nothing.

He has labeled himself a 'homophobic Ahole' as for the Chalky portion of his act that was quoted in 1977 as 'crude and racist,' regardless he released a single in the same accent in 1980 called 'white Christmas'.

Many people belong to that generation, they do not use those terms therefore your apologist attitude falls a little flat here, not to mention being insulting to a whole generation of people who never found his brand of mocking, crude and offensive 'comedy' funny.

Whatever is said today doesn't detract from past events, he may have mellowed or sought help for his addictions it bears no relevance.

On the subject of money, his tax dodging and living in exile in Dubai have given him the opportunity to spend his money in other ways such as it seems setting up charities so other people can donate their already taxed income... how noble.

He is flawed, I can deal with flawed I myself am flawed what I can't deal with is those who fail to acknowledge, admit accountability for those flaws, they come a very close second to those who make the most elaborate excuses imaginable for them.

Why do people keep responding with "he's not perfect" or "he's not a murderer" when that's not even the discussion?

Whoop de doo he's never killed someone, meanwhile, back to the actual topic...

His humour isn't really my cup of tea, but if you go to see Jim Davidson, you know pretty much what you're going to get. You don't like him, don't watch him. Other people may like him and that's their business, it's not anyone else's call. And Jim Davidson has a huge fan base. But hey... if a few people on here don't like him, he's obviously Satan. That seems to be the way of things now.

I watched the programme last night. I can't imagine why people would have walked out, if they actually did walk out. They seemed to me to be a very responsive audience. But hey, if they don''t think Davidson is a knob, then they're all wrong... presumably. There are a lot of troops who he has entertained in the Falklands, Afghanistan, Iraq Bosnia, places where other entertainers didn't bother to go, who think he's a legend.

Nope that isn't 'the way of things'... Some don't agree with the pathetic excuses meted out for his very public or well documented assaults is all.
