A teenage boy has died after being hit by a car while running across the M60 near Manchester.

Police are appealing for witnessesThe 16-year-old was with three others as they ran from the Megabowl complex in Ashton Under Lyme last night.

Police had been called to a disturbance there at around 7pm and they saw the four people head towards the motorway near Junction 23.

One of the males was stopped by police and taken home to his parents.


Two others are believed to have successfully made it across the motorway but the teenager was hit by a car as he crossed the anti-clockwise carriageway.

He suffered multiple injuries and died at the scene.

Police closed the motorway in both directions for several hours and officers are now appealing for witnesses.

The incident has been reported to Greater Manchester Police's internal affairs branch who have referred it to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
