Jo Cox’s widower has issued a warning after Nigel Farage had objects hurled at him while on the campaign trail in Barnsley.

Speaking on GB News, Brendan Cox hit out at people who found the attack “funny” as he warned some may feel emboldened to take such threats further.

Brendan’s late wife, former MP Jo Cox, died in 2016 after being shot and stabbed multiple times in the street in the village of Birstall, where she had been due to hold a constituency surgery.

He told GB News: “I think it's deeply depressing that people think that you can resolve political disagreements with intimidation, with violence.

“Some people think these things are a joke. The throwing of milkshakes, the throwing of eggs, the throwing of paper cups.
“But these things aren't because what they do is, they create a poisonous culture in our democracy.

“They make people who are willing to go further than that, not just throw things, perhaps throw a punch, perhaps worse than that."

Cox pointed out that he disagrees strongly with Nigel Farage on a number of issues politically, but this does not give somebody the right to intimidate as a result.

“So you can disagree vehemently with people like Farage, which I certainly do”, he said.

“But we have a responsibility to uphold the right of candidates, no matter their views.”

In light of yesterday’s attack, the Reform leader has been offered additional private security by the Home Office.

It is not the first incident of its kind during this General Election campaign, with the former Ukip chief struck by a milkshake as he launched his bid to win the seat in Clacton.

Two people have been charged over the incidents.

It is understood that the Home Office has been in touch with the Reform UK leader to offer additional private security.

Police chiefs say it is difficult to work out the intentions of people in crowds when would-be MPs are out campaigning, but that the candidates may not want to be put in a bubble as they try to speak to the public.

The number of intelligence and crime reports received by police relating to MPs has dropped sharply in recent months, but force chiefs insist candidates have confidence in officers to protect them.

Tonight on Channel 4 at 7.55pm, the Reform Party will release one of the most exciting Party Election Broadcasts ever produced.

I’m amazed it even got past compliance, but we did it.

You won’t want to miss this.

Crikey. If Reform do come second in the popular vote but only get a handful of seats it will be a constitutional crisis

Thats an interesting poll but I'm left confused by the new methodology Yougov is using now in its polls.
Moreso as to the strength of their assumptions.

They have started I believe to 'assume' the distribution of some don't know votes.
That's never easy to assume.
Also too, are asking participants as to how they'd vote possibly tactically too.
Which is obviously going to be a bigger feature this election.

Labour voters, voting LibDem to get or keep a Con out.
LibDem voters to do the same to assist Labour.

Some Greens may do the same too.

There's no doubt Con voters are moving to Reform.
Plus probably don't know voters, more likely most going to Reform rather than to other Parties.

It is really interesting what's happening here and although it pains me to say so.
I don't disagree with Nigel Farage on a fair few points.
However he has for sure woken this election up from the borefest it was before.

Well Nigel Farage is making this about immigration in this election.
However if Reform got more votes than the Cons as you mentioned.
Then only receiving a handful of seats.

His next match will certainly be pushing for electoral reform to PR.
I'd support that and am getting very optimistic Labour will by the next election, have to be looking at PR.
IF, it wants to stop future absolute power for the Cons.

There is going to be a political realignment after this election. There has to be because reform and the tories have gone too far to the right for the GBP's taste

Someone needs to come up with a new approach to dealing with illegal immigration, but it may mean a reduction in the rights of every individual in the UK, so people need to agree that they are prepared to go that far.

In Russia, the police can ask to see your id, and if you can't provide the right evidence, they lock you up. So there are options available

I rated Penny Mordaunt at one time especially in the Cons first leadership election.
However on both of these shows, her face has resembled more like a bulldog chewing a wasp.
Like she really doesn't want to be there at all.

Dodgy, dodgy, dodgy .......

"Vote Reform UK", "Only Reform UK has a real plan for Britain" - an account on X has posted these and similar messages every couple of hours since the start of the election campaign.

The account, GenZBloomer, is one of dozens across X, Instagram, Facebook and TikTok which the BBC has identified as posting hundreds of repeated messages in comment threads expressing support for Reform UK.

Their behaviour has prompted claims from other social media users that they are fake - automated "bot" accounts - and they are distorting the online conversation to try to exaggerate the popularity of Reform UK.

The BBC contacted people behind the accounts and found that some are genuine UK voters who believe they are helping the party through their own initiative. Others, however, failed to prove they were authentic.

I spotted this pattern of comments in posts recommended to the feeds of our Undercover Voters - 24 fictional people based around the UK with social media accounts, created to investigate what content is recommended to different types of voters during the election. The profiles are private, with no friends. They just like, follow and watch relevant content.

"The main purpose of my account at this time is to restore British culture and values," the GenZbloomer account told me in a message.

Following concerns about foreign interference in previous elections, some social media users have suggested that GenZbloomer - and other similar accounts - may not based in the UK. They have pointed out phrases a native speaker would be unlikely to use, such as "make an article" instead of "write an article" and "neighbourhood tavern" instead of "local pub".

Others are convinced the GenZbloomer profile must be parody - particularly referring to a blog post the account shared on X about how "young men are struggling out here to find traditional British women to date" because women think they are "better than everyone else because of Love Island and Starmer", referring to the Labour leader Sir Keir.

The person who claimed to be behind GenZbloomer told me they were based in "the Annesley England area" - an unusual way to describe the small village in Nottinghamshire - and gave me a UK mobile phone number.

They agreed to speak to me on the phone, but then did not answer any of my calls.

On WhatsApp, their account is labelled as a business account for a "consulting agency", and features a profile image of a faceless cartoon figure with a microphone headset on.

In messages with grammatical mistakes, they claimed to be a "generation Z voter" who wants a "proper Brexit but the conservatives party ruined".

The account claimed to be working "with Reform UK" in order to "help them win and spread their values across the UK".

The person who had been messaging me provided no evidence to support this claim - and a Reform UK spokesperson said this profile was not connected to the party at all. Reform UK told the BBC it had been in touch with social media companies about other accounts falsely purporting to be connected with the party.

Some responses to my messages from GenZbloomer sounded like parody - describing how they would have to speak to a Reform Party county organiser before they spoke to me, but adding that it "should not be an issue Reform has a super lax vetting process".

After a back-and-forth over text message, my phone number then appeared to have been blocked.

We'll pass on this idea.

There's a reason why we're currently a better country than Russia.
