I laughed at Harry and Paul - stereotyping like this is so tongue in cheek and shouldn't offend as it has been like this forever - like Les Dawson and the 'mother in law' gags. I am Irish by birth but lived in the North East for 20 years and am not at all offended and now live in Suffolk where people are stereotyped as 'inbred and backwood', so have plenty of stereotypes I could be offended by, but I find it funny because its only caricatures of an essence that is there and intended to make laughter which for me it does. I think its necessary so as not to take yourself too seriously

I'm not sure exactly what was said on The Wright Stuff so is difficult to comment but I think we are all intelligent enough to know the difference between 'being teased' and being insulted and I think some people spend too much time and energy being outraged about a comedian saying this or that because it could offend. Anything can offend if thats how you choose to see it. These observances of characters and regions that comics have always used and exaggerated are funny and I don't think they make us actually believe that for instance Northerners are all thick because we're not stupid. Its just funny and not intended to be anything else - perhaps laughter should just be banned because it may offend someone if you laugh at the wrong time. Lets all just chill and enjoy

It's probably the only funny sketch in that show.
Yeah, maybe a bit dated. He looks like an 80's Northerner fresh from a miners' strike, lol. It would probably be more accurate if they had blond mullets, ripped jeans, embroidered tops and worked as outbound sales workers. The North is actually still stuck in the early 2000's. The local chavs on the other hand are still in the early 90's.
