(Cher, Paije)

Week 8

Rebecca - 2nd - 2nd
Matt - 3rd - 1st

(Cher, Mary)

Week 10 (Saturday)

Rebecca - 1st - 2nd
One Direction - 2nd - 3rd
Matt - 3rd - 1st

(Cher)

Week 10 (Sunday)

Matt - 1st - 1st
Rebecca - 2nd - 2nd

(One Direction)

Things I noticed:

Underlined names are just those who were announced where they placed.
Matt wasn't called through first until the very last show, Sunday's final, when it was down to him, Rebecca and One Direction.
The highest Mary was ever called out was 5th/8 in week 7.
Until week 9 when One Direction were called through first, it had only been boys or girls called through first.

Things that I think could be inferred from the data:
Matt not being announced through first at all until the final night, an attempt to portray him as weaker and needing votes desperately; or trying to downplay his popularity for other reasons.
Calling boys/girls through first an attempt to strengthen Dannii and Cheryl's categories in the minds of viewers, or to emphasise the weakness of Simon and Louis' categories.
John could perhaps have been subconsciously portrayed as more forgettable by being called through 2nd, twice, before his bottom two appearance in week 3.
Paije, on the other hand, could have been subconsciously portrayed as a weaker act (but in need of votes) due to being recurringly towards the end of being called through, bar week 4 when he was called through 1st - perhaps an attempt to weaken him in the same way as I suggested they did to John in order to save Katie the following week?
Week 1 saw Matt, Rebecca, One Direction and Mary being called out middle-end; perhaps to strengthen their support?
Mary regularly being called out towards the end could perhaps have subconsciously portrayed her as weaker
Bar week 1's 12th place being called through, thereafter One Direction were 5th through or earlier in each of the subsequent weeks.
Bar week 2 when he was 11th, Aiden was in the top 3 called through in each of the weeks prior to his elimination. Portraying him as safe?

Please note that these are all theories, I'm just speculating on the reasons why people are announced through in the order they are - I don't think producers know the voting percentages on a weekly basis but I do think they plan these things carefully and work on assumptions.

I think there is a psychological order of contestants being called out. I applaud your work.

I do think the last act to be called through before elimination/sing off, it does definitely put a thought in your head and probably the contestants head that they only just made it through and perhaps had the next lowest votes (eventhough Dermot says in no particular order)

When matt was called last on Saturday, I had it in my head that he was gone first on the Sunday night

Like I think part of the reason I was convinced Paije would go is that he was always called out near the end; and part of the reason Mary lost popularity was perhaps due to being called out late so much. It's psychological definitely.
