Default Deus Ex: Universe

See full sized image here

A new Deus Ex game is in development for next-gen machines, Eidos Montreal has confirmed.

Coming to next-gen consoles and PCs, the game will be published under the Deus Ex: Universe banner.

Described as an "ongoing, expanding and connected game world built across a generation of core games", Deus Ex: Universe encompasses PC and console games, as well as titles on smartphones, tablets, books and graphic novels.

"It's a commitment on our part to deliver meaningful content that expands the franchise on a regular basis and to deliver a deep conspiracy that will span several connected Deus Ex games, creating a more immersive and richer experience than ever before," explains Eidos studio head David Anfossi.

Most of the team behind Deus Ex: Human Revolution are working on the PC and next-gen game, which is seen as the starting point of Deus Ex: Universe.

The first piece of concept art (above) represents a 'ghetto-city' voluntarily built in order to separate the classes.

The upcoming game will focus on "trans-humanism segregation", offering a "dark and dystopian vision" of things to come.

Eidos also revealed the release date for Deus Ex: Human Revolution - The Director's Cut.

Adding second screen support, refined boss fights, developer commentary and enhanced visuals, Human Revolution - Director's Cut will be available in North America from October 22 and in Europe on October 25.

I hope this one shows more of a step toward the world we see in the first Deus Ex, I noticed there's a blue tint in the artwork too, which was Deus Ex 1's colour.

New details have emerged regarding Deus Ex: Universe, the Square Enix project announced last year as an “ongoing, expanding and connected game world built across a generation of core games.”

Square Enix hasn’t elaborated on what these core games are, but we’ve been chatting to some insiders who have shared a few interesting bits of info.

According to one of our sources, Deus Ex: Universe was initially conceived as one huge game, but was split into a trilogy because the project was considered too ambitious.

Across these games, we're told that player decisions will be carried over in much the same manner as the Mass Effect trilogy. Indeed, the idea is to transfer even more info between instalments than BioWare’s celebrated sci-fi RPG series.

Our source also says that the core Deus Ex: Universe games will be coming to consoles, although Square Enix has already said that further “experiences” will be released for “other media such as tablets, smartphones, books, graphic novels, etc.”

The source adds that all of the information shared is accurate as of last year, but may be subject to change. In particular, the number of console games released under the Deus Ex: Universe banner could shift according to a variety of factors.

In addition to this, further information has emerged from a separate source who has seen promotional material for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, a trademark for which was filed by Square Enix back in March.

We’re told that the promotional material featured Deus Ex: Human Revolution star Adam Jensen and Deux Ex: The Fall protagonist Ben Saxon. Deus Ex: The Fall is a mobile (and Steam) title released last year.

Could Deus Ex: Mankind Divided be the first Deus Ex: Universe release, with Jensen and Saxon as the lead men? It's possible, although our sources would not confirm or deny.

When Deus Ex: Universe was announced, Square Enix released a piece of concept art representing a “'ghetto-city' voluntarily built in order to separate the classes.” You can see it below.

“The people in this segregated class have reshaped their environment, nostalgic for their ideal of Cyber Renaissance,” said Square Enix. “This dark and dystopian vision sets the tone for things to come in Deus Ex.”

A Deus Ex: Universe logo appeared in an EU trademark database last week, sparking speculation that a proper reveal would come at E3 2014. But it wasn't to be. Square Enix has yet to formaly elaborate on its plans.
I so hope this is true.

So, Square confirmed that Deus Ex Universe wont be an MMO (thank god) and also revealed the engine they will be using to create the game

Quote:
The studio has been hard at work, and we’re proud to announce today Dawn Engine™, our game engine designed exclusively for PCs and the new generation of consoles.

In the past, we’ve relied on existing engines for our games. But in the end, we found that our creative vision was somehow limited. So we decided it was time for us to invest in creating an engine tailored for our needs.

The result of this work is the Dawn Engine. Based on a heavily modified version of IO Interactive’s Glacier™ 2 engine, it represents the beginning of a new era for us. Our ambition is to build upon and improve both the visual and immersive artistry in our games, whilst also strengthening both the gameplay and storytelling experiences we strive to create.

We wanted to share a first glimpse of what we aim to achieve, with a screenshot taken directly from the Dawn Engine. Keep in mind – despite any hints you may pick up from this image, this screenshot was only taken in order to display the level of detail and artistic fidelity that is possible with the Dawn Engine

As you can imagine, the Dawn Engine will form the cornerstone for all Deus Ex Universe projects at Eidos-Montréal. Some of you have had concerns that “Universe” meant “MMO”. Rest assured, it does not.

Deus Ex Universe is the name we are giving to the fictional world and the rich lore we are creating for it, which will of course include core games, as well as any other projects that will help bring the world of Deus Ex to life. We won’t go into too much detail for now, but what we envision is for our projects to have meaningful ties to one another, in order for them to strengthen and deepen your experience within this Universe.

We’d also like to take this opportunity to say that we have several positions available at our studio! You can check them out on employment page.

We will be sharing much more in the coming months. In the meantime, you can follow us on Facebook and Twitter to keep up with the latest updates.

Thank you all for your support!
