Did anyone else see the programme on Channel 4 last night about young girls thinking they were fat. It was quite frightening to hear 6 and 7 year olds worrying that their legs were fat and 9 year olds going to the gym three times a week to keep skinny. But the worse was seeing these same kids in full make up and dressing like much older girls - many of them with the consent and encouragement of their mothers.
With all the talk about paedophilia you only had to watch that programme to see some of the problem. Young girls talking about trying to act sexy at 9 = what will they be like when they are teenagers. The saddest part was seeing a young girl in full make up, heeled shoes and clothes suitable for someone at least five years older trying to play on a climbing frame - it looked so incongruous. I know kids grow up quickly now, but if this becomes the norm, people wont have to visit porn sites they will just have to stand outside the local primary school. Love to hear if others feel the same or if anyone is for this. |

Didn't see the programme myself, BusyBee, but people were discussing it in the canteen at work. I could hardly believe what I was hearing!
I agree with you completely - kids nowadays are growing up far too quickly. They don't seem to have much of a proper childhood at all before they're experimenting with make-up, going to discos and wearing scaled down versions of teenagers' clothes. All very sad in my opinion. |
