Default Big Brother is a disgusting display of humanity

Its taken me a long time to come to realisation but the people they put in the house really are the lowest of the low, virtually all are vile sociopaths obsessed with only themselves and the appearance of others.
It is a gross misrepresentation of the majority people in this world, who are caring of others and have beautiful souls.

and this is the exact reason why soaps, dramas and films will always be popular

As people we enjoy being able to spot flaws in others, discuss it and in turn feel better about ourselves.

Well if the HMs are the lowest of the low, what does that make the people who watch it?

Which world do you live on? Are there any spaces left? Can I move there??

Pay attention a little longer. You'll eventually find out that those "beautiful souls" quickly become snide, sarcastic, selfish, defensive and downright nasty the second they feel that they have been wronged or "offended". The niceness is a facade that evaporates quite easily.

There are exceptions I suppose. But... Not many. Most people, when pushed, are just little walking blobs of vile narcissism.

Merry Christmas!!

Most people in the world are decent people i agree but not everyone on Big Brother is a vile sociopath. Lots of lovely souls have passed through the show over the years.

But you are right in that a lot of big egos are picked for the show - it makes for good viewing.

But what i do find interesting about the show though is it is a huge wake up call for a lot of those big egos. People go in the house giving it the large only to have their dark sides (manipulation, vanity, hypocrisy etc) - exposed and unraveled on a very public level.

I think it does a lot of good to these people. The show gives these big egos nowhere to run and hide any more and it forces big egos to examine themselves and be examined - and hopefully change for the better.

That's why it's the ultimate show for people watching and the ultimate show for reminding us what we all go through in life - self examination and improvement.

i dont know. most people in life are just no good. bb tend to pick a lot of desperados and arseholes

they should be putting some fun happy go lucky up for a laugh types in . ive met so many ideal people who the public would love. why dont they seek these people out instead of arseholes.
everyone needs a villian but need some natural humour as well. bb seem to pick either try hards or boring people or wannabes.

Change channels then I know many people (including my husband) who would agree with you. Each to their own I guess

I agree to an extent. Not everyone is a wanker on this show, but it is filled with them.

I'm not sure why they do this with English Big Brother where they mostly fill it with completely arrogant people.

As real as the people are and the emotions and the relationships are, it is still a highly intense artificial experience that brings out the best and worst in people - which is exactly why it's a "social experiment" and why I find it so compelling. You have to remember you aren't watching people being horrible in their every day lives, you're watching them in an extremely high pressure environment among a community of strangers with conflicting personalities. That's why I personally think nobody should ever take the show, or people's behavior on it, too seriously. It's an entertainment television show at the end of the day. Everyone on their show is essentially pushed to their absolute limit, and it just shows nobody is perfect (though of course there are those on the show who have tried to come off as so by learning to mask true emotions as a coping mechanism).

They have been selected due to their argumentative bombastic personalities this year though, mind you it's always big characters with massive egos anyway as a rule.

Well even the nicest of people find themselves surprised at how they act in such a controlled environment. Nobody truly knows what that's like unless you've been in it probably. Even after all these years you still get housemates talking of how they didn't realise just how hard it would be even after watching for so long.

So when they strive to find the biggest, most opinionated and outgoing people for the show then it's going to be even more magnified.

Some would say it's showing humankind for what it truly is basically; selfish and aggressive.

It's an entirely artificial environment so when someone would spend their entire life dealing with their problems maturely when they're faced with living in the same 4 walls and unable to escape the people that annoy them and little things like not being able to go out and shop for your own food etc can have surprising results.

I really believe I wouldn't last a week in BB, even if I liked the other housemates. I wouldn't be able to deal with the confinement.

this, along with the manipulated nature of the show where depending how the producers feel anyone can be made to look like a villain, is why I never take conflicts and arguments on BB so much to heart. I just take it for what is - an entertainment show. these people will probably get along once they leave the house.

It´s the stress of confinement, knowing that you won´t be seeing anything/anyone else but the people and the house you are now for potentially 60+ days and not knowing/not being able to control what will happen next are the things that make your mind go absolutely bonkers. And when you go bonkers, you do crazy and unbelievable things.

I think it would happen to even the most strong minded of us if we were put into that same situation.

..excellent post Ryan...I think that in some parts BB tries to find the more 'extreme' characters but then the VTs are often misleading to what the housemates are really like and designed to just get them noticed and chosen but it's also always interesting to see individuals cut off from their support circle and see how they react to situations and their environment...I do think though that to an extent we have to 'take it seriously' because the point of it is to observe them and then to vote etc so as much as we can have an understanding that this is not a real situation and some of the housemates are probably very nice people in their every day lives, we can only judge them on their behaviour in the house and we have to judge them to be able to vote and for the show to be what it is...
