Default 200 Loyds Banks To Close (due to lack of use)

http://news.sky.com/story/lloyds-to-...shock-10514874

200 Branches to Close has been on the cards since last year.

Not everyone uses Banking Online
and some can not afford to do so.

But in General Terms
local banks do not get
enough customers going into them,

I mostly use banking online. Sometimes I do go in my branch, but not much.

They have stopped doing a lot of services in the local branches forcing a lot of people to go into the city to use a branch or start banking online. They then say people dont use local branches anymore so we have to shut down.

'Despite reporting healthy profits of Ł2.5bn in the six months to June, more than double the figure achieved for the previous year, CEO Antonio Horta-Osorio has warned that he is expecting growth to slow'

...so because they anticipate things like recession, they contribute to recession and aid it all along etc../makes perfect sense really..isn't that how it works..'the expecting' and then taking action on that and becoming the cause in itself...I think to a large extent, those who go into branches and who branches are important to are more elderly people who don't understand the internet so much or wouldn't trust online banking..and they can have large savings as well so should be considered much more than it appears they are...it almost seems very dismissive of them...I guess some will possibly go back to the old mattress method of banking...

To be fair, I have multiple bank accounts and I can't remember the last time I actually walked into a branch for personal use... It must be three or four years ago. You can even deposit cheques at cash machines these days.

I only hope our local bank doesn't shut, it's not Lloyds and it's always very busy so should be ok.
Nothing quite like the personal touch.

If its in a village
they will only close it ,
if the next City or Town has one.

Meaning if its around 8 or 10 miles away

..yeah, it is that as well smudgie..I think it'll probably be more the village and small town branches that close and they may not be that busy in terms of keeping them open and alternatives to that but for some people who are not that mobile for various reasons..it could mean that they just become more house-bound and 'cut-off' because things like going to the bank is something that has got them out of the house with a purpose...I feel sad for that because 'personal' is something that is very, very important also...

..that may as well be 100 miles for some people and their lack of mobility and who don't have trust of online banking but who also do need to get out as well...

Get them all smartphones... Then they can use the banking app, and quickly switch over to Tinder when they're done...

Lack of use sounds about right nobody has any money to keep in a bank, most working now lead a hand to mouth existence.

Out of interest does anyone know of an 'ethical' bank?

Can't remember the names, but there are a couple of ethical savings accounts etc you can have, i assume they are with ethical banks.
We found them on themoneysupermarket website.

the various banks could easily pool their resources and provide at least one bank in every village, but that requires some joined up thinking

I would say that this is the time where the post office should start showing its advantages more clearly.

The banks signed a pledge to keep one branch in a geographical area open ...they have since broken that pledge.
