Default Cheaper to fly from Newcastle via Menora to London than by train

Might be looking for such deals myself.

Yeah train fares are an absolute joke. We went from Newcastle to Scotland last year and it was 80 quid each. A few months later we went to lanzarote and it cost lest per 4 hour flight than per 2 hour train. Absolute joke and just shows how much they rip you off for trains tbh

My wife is down in Birmingham for a conference next week... Return ticket (from Glasgow) is nearly £100, and that's at the cheapest off peak times, around rush hours is more.

First class was quoting £350!! For a TRAIN from Glasgow to Birmingham . Insane. It's not even that different?? We got first class from Preston to Glasgow a couple of years ago, free upgrade because Virgin managed to double book our seats somehow. It's SLIGHTLY more comfortable and spacious, and you get a free sandwich and drink, but really... At £350 that's a damn expensive sandwich.

If you're not booking in advance then any long distance train fares are terrible in this country, so much worse than any other country I've been to. Thank god for the Megabus and National Express.

Ahh good old Megabus. When I was at Uni I did Dundee to Sheffield Megabus (and back) once a fortnight to visit my (now) wife, £5 - £10 for a return. 8 and a half hours of mild discomfort, and one December their heaters were broken and I'm sure I nearly got hypothermia, BUT you can't argue with those prices...

They also did Dundee to Glasgow for £1. That's basically free!

Thats hilarious. Trains are so odd. I would always buy tickets for one stop at a time, it really pisses them off and its cheaper.

Manchester-Southampton would be like £150 but theres like 12 stops on that train, and its usually less than a fiver between each one if you buy them individually.

train prices are a mess, sometimes it costs me £40 for a return to my parents but sometimes it costs me like £15
