Default Vegan mother is left 'traumatised' after eating three bites of KFC meat-free burger

[She added: 'I then went in with him
and had to wake him up,
the manager then came out.
'That's when he gave me a vegan burger,
didn't apologise and laughed and
said 'you should have known it was chicken'.
'All of the staff stood there staring at me.
I felt humiliated and have been
left traumatised due to not
only a life style choice but also
religion being broken and made fun of.
I was speechless and can't
express how disgusting their customer service was.'

KFC later apologised for her ordeal at its branch in Colliers Wood.
A spokesman said: 'This isn't great and we're really sorry for what happened here.]

I mean, they really should have been aware of what the burger was, dietary requirements are serious buisness, can you imagine she'd ordered a gluten free burger and they gave her the wrong one?

On the one hand, I cannot fathom stepping into a KFC if you have serious vegan values.

On the other, KFC and other such establishments are often the only places where you can afford a meal and it's probably a necessity rather than a choice since the gentrification of organic/vegan/healthy food has made it double, triple the price of other food or more.

Yeah, the vegan part of the story makes it a target for mockery but dietary requirements are no laughing matter. If they had served the wrong meal to someone with a much more serious intolerance there'd be bigger consequences.

yes no laughing matter, given people have died so recently from allergies, like the boy who was celebrating his 18th birthday and was allergic to dairy and they gave him chicken marinated in buttermilk when it should have been plain.

Well could be worse ,but this is still messed up .

But I remember hearing about people with nut allergies being fed peanut powder in their curries from takeaways & restaurants, I think someone died.

Yep, I work with food and I know just how important it is to get dietary requirements right, you can literally face jail time if you mess up and someone gets hurt, or worse, dies. The KFC in question should face serious consequences

As said, ethically I can't see why a vegetarian or vegan would give KFC business... mind you that's playing to the the stereotype that all veggie/ vegans are all a bit militant about it. There will be just as many who don't care they just don't like meat I suppose?

It was a shocking response and yes they should be held accountable they didn't know why she required the meat free version as said.

This is a tad controversial but on the topic of life threatening allergies, I don't think I would trust a sandwich place or fast food takeaway to be as fastidious as required tbh.
I'd have to make my own or just have crisps and a smoothie or something.

...sadly back in the day it took a little bit of lagging behind and catching up with some mindsets and vegetarianism...now it seems to be repeating a similar mode with vegan ism...

As someone who has food allergies, you don't take chances

Nobody has pointed out how ludicrous it was for her to have taken 3 bites of her burger before deciding to complain, to then claim to be traumatised is just laughable

Maybe the consistency/ taste of reconstituted chicken and chicken flavoured substitute is quite similar under the spices?

I think she claimed to be traumatised by the humiliating way she was treated in the restaurant.

I mean... I know they should be getting it right, but... they pay minimum wage and hire spotty teens straight out of school. Where they probably got like a D in Geography or something. We have to be somewhat realistic with our expectations here.

I also question the logic of a vegan spending any money in KFC at all. I mean, their whole reason for existing is in the name. They fry chicken. They fry almost a billion chickens every year. Are you really vegan if you fund them... even if you don't eat actual chicken? Vegitarian, sure, but I was under the impression that "vegan" was about a lot more than just the actual diet?

Then there's still the issue of training of the staff when working with food regardless of their age and expertise surely.

I'm saying that paying rock-bottom wages and whilst expecting staff with high ability levels is just... a stretch. You're going to get staff who either don't have the ability or experience to work to a high standard, or staff who do have the ability and experience to work to a high standard - but no enthusiasm for actually doing so because it pays peanuts.

Meh, it's really not difficult to read a label and find where the vegan burgers are, or at least remember which order is being done

Shouldn't make a difference who the person is, you don't have to be intelligent for that

God that story still sticks with me about the Buttermilk incident.

In this case I am expecting the worker to at the very least get suspended, and rightly so imo.
