BBC Text :
[The Guardian's main image is of the four protesters celebrating outside Bristol Crown Court. The paper says anti-racism campaigners hailed the jury's decision to clear them as "a huge step in getting the UK to face up to its colonial past". It notes the defence had urged jurors to "be on the right side of history" - describing the continued display of the Edward Colston statue as potentially constituting a crime in itself.] ![]() Last edited by arista; 06-01-2022 at 01:38 AM. |

Commie scumbags.
It's thanks to Britain's colonial past that the World and humanity is advanced as it is today. What the Britain's did for the World is priceless. What these angry, bored individuals do for the World today is nothing of worthiness to advance things. These people just want something for nothing, everything to be put on a plate for them. They're all take and no give. The people that put these stories on the national newspapers are even worse than the vandals. This isn't a mainstream newsworthy story. This was just criminal vandalism which goes on everyday all over the country. They should have just been dealt with by the authorities like any other vandal. No need for the mainstream media to splash it all over every mainstream newspaper. There's obviously a narrative push that is being purposely made, why else would they slash a bit of vandalism all over their front pages? Use your loaf! Last edited by Alf; 06-01-2022 at 03:21 AM. |

![]() Seems to have divided opinion right down the middle in Bristol though, its either a great day for the city or a massive failure of justice |

Remembering Kerry

I don't support normally physical destruction or violent acts.
There's been a long running issue with this statue for a very long time. With authorities neither seeming to really engage or address it. On this, I'm pleased to see this verdict and think it's the right one. Furthermore, on a biased view, I intensely dislike statues. I see no point of the further glorification of individuals in statues. Make them and put them in buildings where those who may wish to look at them or regularly visit them can do so. Not have them shoved in your face as you walk around or drive around cities and towns. Usually often only attracting a load of bird mess. Last edited by joeysteele; 06-01-2022 at 09:09 AM. |

Ironically the real answer is probably somewhere inbetween both sides.

They should have been found guilty, and then let off.

Presumably then, anyone can tear down any monument they disagree with. Or... the law is about to change.

*In 2021 thirty two students in the USA received Rhodes Scholarships Twenty-two of them are students of colour; ten are black, which equals the greatest number ever elected in one year in the United States. Nine are first-generation Americans or immigrants; and one has active DACA status. Seventeen of the winners are women, 14 are men, and one is non-binary. Let's leave his statue where it is. *Source: Forbes. Last edited by Livia; 10-01-2022 at 04:44 PM. |

[Well I wish them luck tearing down the pyramids and the Great Wall of China, both built by slaves.]
Yes, they would never be let near that. |
