I just loved winding Nicola up, admits jungle 'sex pest' David Van Day after he fails to reach I'm A Celebrity final Eighties singer David Van Day has been voted out of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!, narrowly missing the reality show's 2008 final.
The 52-year-old survived 16 days in the jungle, during which he took great pleasure in winding up his nemesis Nicola McLean.
Refuting her claims he had a game plan to win the show by creating arguments on purpose, David insisted she 'gave me loads of currency'.
Insisting he didn't 'particularly' have a game plan, David said: 'I could only react off other people's reactions. I couldn't make it up, it was real.
'Nicola gave me loads of currency. I could see her coming and when she was going off, I was just like, "go for it girl, scream at men."
'She made it really easy for me [to behave a certain way].
'I said before I went in I wasn't going to take any nonsense from anyone and I stuck to my guns.'
During his days in the Australian bush, latecomer David was controversially accused of being a sex pest by fellow contestant Nicola.
After Nicola, 27, left the camp earlier this week she claimed David's sexual advances towards her became so aggressive that ITV producers asked her if she wanted him kicked off the show.
Nicola said she was horrified when David slapped her on the behind during a challenge and suggested they pretend to be lovers in a bid to remain in the jungle.
She claimed: 'What he did was degrading. He touched me inappropriately. In our contract it says we are not to touch one another in a sexual way or you get a warning or even worse.
'When he asked me to have a jungle romance for the cameras, I felt sick. He is old enough to be my dad. When he tried to kiss me, I felt ill.'
His departure leaves tennis champion Martina Navratilova, Star Trek star George Takei and former EastEnders actor Joe Swash as this year's I'm A Celeb finalists.
Joe is the hot favourite to win with 1/5 odds, with Martina receiving 5/1 odds.
George is the outsider with 7/1 in the odds offered by bookmakers William Hill.
But during his post-jungle interview with hosts Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, David admitted he was disappointed to leave, but said the remaining three deserved to be in the final.
He said: 'I chatted by a**e off in there, to everybody, to myself. My work was finished.
'They're genuinely three nice guys. They don't need me interfering and messing with their minds.'
Questioned about whether he was upset to be out, David added: 'I was disappointed to leave my friends there. It's been a real rollercoaster for me.
'I think my work was finished. There are three nice guys in there and I think they should be left alone to get on with things.'
And he tipped Joe to win, despite their disagreements over the last few days.
Describing the actor as 'the salt of the earth', David said: 'He stood up for himself and he was true to himself. He's my king of the jungle.'
