I'm not going to start blaming a couple of teenagers for their own deaths; it's a sad state of affairs no matter how you look at it, and they also (obviously) had no part in the events that followed.

However I can't help but think, especially after seeing photos, that the police were following them specifically because what they were doing was clearly not safe and they were at high risk of an accident regardless ... I can't see any real indication that the accident was caused by the police following them, and I think the original police statement was saying that the police weren't directly involved in the collision (it was between the bike and another vehicle).

Though I am struggling to understand why they weren't clearer about that part, i.e. "Yes they were being followed by police because they were doing something dangerous, the police van wasn't involved in the collision and arrived at the scene soon after it happened".

It's not like they were in a "high speed chase" caused by the police following them, these bikes have a top speed of about 25mph and with two people on it, it can't have been doing much over 20mph - being chased or otherwise.

The issue of course is that any collision on a bike can easily be fatal if you're not wearing a helmet.

Sure TS
the Police Stopped Chasing Motorbike with the 2 lads
They were half a mile away as they crashed into the bus

It was their own dumb fault
to go at Max Speed into a Bus.

took shortcut through blocked street]

That is why TS
Cops were half a mile away
at the time of their death.

Lets just be thankful they only killed themselves with their recklessness and not a innocent bystander, or even a little child.

BBC1 showed
the Junction the 2 lads could ride through.

No Police in a Car or Van can not get through.

The police just get worse and worse

South Wales Police and Crime Commissioner Alun Michael declined to comment on social media footage appearing to show a police van following two people on either a moped or electric bike, apparently minutes before the crash.

He said: "You should examine the carefully-worded statement from the chief superintendent."

The pursuing vehicle was half a mile away at the time of the crash. They had ceased pursuing them because it was to dangerous.

Two police officers are under investigation for their conduct prior to the death of two boys in a bike crash in Cardiff which led to rioting.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said gross misconduct notices had been served on the driver and passenger in a police van seen driving behind two boys on an e-bike.

Kyrees Sullivan, 16, and Harvey Evans, 15, died in the crash on 22 May.

The notices do not mean officers will face disciplinary proceedings.

The IPOC said its investigation focused on the nature of the police interaction with the two boys before the crash and the appropriateness of the officers' decisions and actions.

In particular, the police watchdog said it was examining whether the officers in the police vehicle were pursuing the boys.

Cars were set alight and fireworks thrown at police as 100 to 150 people gathered in the Cardiff suburb of Ely on the night of the crash.

What's even more concerning is the way that whole police force tried to cover it up
