I feel sorry for the Kaiser chiefs. They must have lost 1000s in royalties.

A40-year-old grandfather is facing a custodial sentence after pleading guilty to assault by beating of a police officer who he “barrelled” into at a protest in Southampton.

Ryan Wheatley, of Malvern Close, Fair Oak, Hampshire, admitted running into Sergeant Rob Perry at the demonstration on Wednesday.

I don't get this but the guy who assaulted female police officers in the airport is where exactly??

I dont think he has done that badly, he probably should have visited the families but then I am not sure that has been done before with terror attacks has it?

…(..I think…) …for me, it’s a situation in sentencing that isn’t going to be comparable to any ‘one time incident’…in that it’s still considered an escalation that has the country in ‘high alert’….and has created and is creating a ‘crisis situation’ that is involving government COBRA meetings, which more isolated incidents don’t have the same levels of public safety considerations…in fact, with violent incidents etc…its often said by the police…’no further threat to public is perceived’ or whatever the wording is…that doesn’t apply to the rioting which is still a high alert situation so sentencing does appear to be factoring and reflecting that also….

…it’s one of those random things that sticks because my dad…(…being Irish so not really having huge English history knowledge etc…)…would say, that’s where they hung the poor monkey…any time Hartlepool was mentioned…and I did as a child have grim upsetting visions of a poor hanging monkey in my head…

"One stormy day during the Napoleonic Wars, a French ship was wrecked off the coast of an old fishing village clinging to the north-east coast of England.

The only survivor was the ship's mascot, a monkey that was washed ashore.

The people of Hartlepool had never seen a monkey before - nor, for that matter, had they ever set eyes on a Frenchman.

Mistaking its chattering for the language of the enemy, they convicted the monkey of being a French spy and hanged the animal on the beach.

Or so the story goes."

Very apt for this thread really, I have a feeling this is a cautionary tale about the mindlessness of "mob mentality".

TiBB is actually my 4th "forum membership stint" of my internet life (going back to when I was 13 in 1998 ) -- I am and always have been an advocate for threads being allowed to meander on and off topic. How else can we capture such serendipity .

Good to see a 20 months prison sentence given to a 28 year old guy who posted incitement to violence post on Facebook.

Any racial hatred posts should be looked into and supporting of these criminal rioters

Words have consequences and I'm really pleased to see words and wording now being looked at as to what
is posted on social media sites open to the public.
More needs to be watched as to that on ALL sites.

The judge decreed 50% in this case.

The 40% will only be used to help open up room in prisons likely over a short period.

Once that's done the 40% will no longer probably apply.

On that note .

Labour were complaining that the jails were at dangerous levels and they may have to let loads out early ..

Today after nearly 500 arrests their spokesman said there was plenty of room for all these people !!

No wonder the don’t trust governments ( all parties). !!

There are prison places but the prisons are heading to be full.
It was the Cons who began the policy of letting prisoners out a bit earlier..
They were going to do the same thing almost exactly.

It's not a uniquely Labour thing.

IF as it was said, the prison population stayed the same, then by next year the prisons would be full.

No one ever said they were FULL now.
It was the Con govt who admitted they were now at dangerously high levels.
Labour agreed they were.

It's not as dramatic as you're making it out and only moaning at Labour as usual while skirting past the fact over 14 years, under Cameron, May, Johnson, Truss AND Sunak.
The prison population has reached dangerously high levels and expected to be full within around a year +.

The early release programme to begin in September hopefully.
Will reduce the prison population substantially.
So these being sentenced now easily accommodated thankfully.

Everywhere across the justice system it's known more places are needed in years to come.
It's not a question of trust, it's simple facts.

the more attention you give these riots, the longer they will continue to go on

that is what these protester trolls want, attention and likes

don't give them attention, and they'll go away being bored not getting what they want
