Starmer is now in France
meeting President Macron.

From The illegal migrant's thread
a new update

[Another 614 illegal migrants
arrived yesterday in Dover,
in 10 boats.

SkyNewsHD reported]

I assume PM Starmer has no time for that?

Dave Evans CEO

This is so silly. I don't smoke, but outside should be allowed everywhere.

Sadly Experts in Health
have found folks who sit near smokers
are in danger.

If I am eating Outside
I hate smoke coming near me

However the OBR and IFS again state it's a terrible legacy inherited which was known admittedly.
I lost count of the times in the election where I stated to potential voters, that the chaos left after 14 years of shambolic government was going to be horrendous.

It's odd how Labour after 8 weeks in power are criticised for pointing out the mess of the Cons over 14 years
The Cons for goodness sake were still going on about the mess they inherited in 2010, still on about it even this year.

I'm unhappy with the government, I and others will moan at conference and point out wrongs.
However there is a massive mess left from even just the last 5 years.
There are hard choices to make.
It seems Starmer will not make the better choices to deal with the mess.

I'll only judge the government though, on where we are at or heading in around 2 to 3 years time
As I did with the Coalition when it came in.

There's no fair comparison that can be made from 14 years of mismanagement after only 2 months barely in government.
I hear you Joey, but the Labour mantra was vote for change, reset, turn the page, if they are just going to moan about the Tories they may as well be the Tories in disguise, I actually dont know what is going on but it feels like they have decided alot of pensioners will be dead by the time the next election rolls round, I heard some clips today of Starmer and Reeves talking about being crystal clear about not taxing working people, but if they reverse the fuel duty that is exactly what they doing

2 things, Even I knew about the 22b shortfall before the election, so it was no surprise to labour. One of the measures the tories planned to implement was reducing the size of the prison service. Labour knew this before the election and signed up to implementing the same cuts

2nd ... if they inject 22b into the system, it would mean they don't need to implement the cuts, but that would mean all the staffing and space would remain as it is now, there won't be any improvements or increase in capacity.

3rd, now I'm here

Labour just gave away billions in pay rises while my winter fuel allowance is cancelled. They are spending billions re-committing to green targets that we can't blinking afford. It seems they would rather be green and have people in poverty

I always thought Starmer was being sneaky before the election in his choice of words, but in a years time, i bet Sunaks estimate of the tax rises to working people under labour will be proven to be true.

The thing is, I think many people would have accepted tax rises prior to the election, if it meant getting the country back on it's feet. Now after being lied to within 6 weeks of the election, they are going to be very angry, and won't forget

I am really disappointed with the start on some things here.

However I will reserve more judgement on where things are more like 2 years in.
As I did with the coalition.
Far more was introduced by then and far worse than what's being done now.
Although the winter payment change I am dead against.

As far the fuel duty it was cut at a time prices had gone astronomically high by 5p
The price of petrol is now way down to when the fuel duty was cut

I use my car every day, the costs now to do so are extremely lower to just around 2 years ago.
So I myself don't mind the duty to be increased back to where it was.
In fact since this will raise 2 billion a year, I'd rather Reeves doubled the increase.
Then she's virtually got her 20+ billion she needs.
Far better than taking the winter fuel off any pensioners.
Although again I'd rather see that means tested but increased for those who need it.

She hasn't got it through yet unscathed however.
I think she'll be under a lot of pressure to bring more in to have it still paid
I hope she gets a rough ride at conference.

Pension credit is fine as one guide to means testing but so many just miss out and that's why I'm against the winter payment being stopped, for in my view, way too many pensioners who I think should still get it.

It's plain wrong, she is wrong, and needs to be made to listen and look elsewhere for the funding she needs.

For me the real danger of getting selective on who gets the winter payment or indeed other extras put in place before
The danger can be they end up being lost for good.
Some things, especially for pensioners who've contributed anything from 30 to 50 years of their working lives, should be treated as sacrosanct.
For me the winter fuel payment fits that bill.
