Funny thing is it's taken Labour years to earn the trust and support of a wider voter base and they've squandered much of it within four months. A lot of people just feel like their suspicions have been confirmed that Labour don't truly care about people beyond their base and have no idea about the reality of people's lives beyond liberal urban areas. Remember atm that these are just announcements that they've made so far - they'll become a lot more unpopular once these policies are actually implemented and start to bite

Although saying that they do have a mandate to govern for four years so the petition is a bit pointless. Lots more people signed anti-Brexit petitions which also achieved nothing

Politicians around the world are just not getting the discontent of the population. None of them are actively improving peoples lives right now. All they are concerned about is going green, which is a method of big business to make money and to screw the general population with higher and higher costs of living

The problem is the people that get the money don’t have to live next to what’s been built on green belt land

Politicians went woke for likes but the electorate never did and never will

Labour are about to pay a very heavy toll

I genuinely cant see either the Tories or Labour surviving much longer

Exactly. Many such cases.

The fatcats wouldn't be spoiling the green spaces on their own doorstep.

I don't get how people can't see how dumb this is in concept though. "A million people want the GE overturned!!!"

Well yes nearly 7 million people voted Tory alone so you can assume that at least 7 million people want the GE overturned. Plus all of the Reform voters, and a smattering of others. "Lots of people didn't want Labour to get into power! Millions of 'em!!" is not news it's... erm... election politics?

Labout got a total vote of 9,708,716

Thus

Until there's a petition that says 9,708,717 want a new GE it's not even worth taking vaguely seriously.

And if 10 million people signed it that still wouldn't even indicate there'd be a different result on a revote.

And that's without accounting for single individuals signing multiple times - since there are no actual checks to make sure that isn't happening - so it almost certainly is to some degree.

"This poll has taken off faster than any we've ever seen!" folks will say. The simple explanation for that is that it's "gone viral". That's all.

Absolutely, hallelujah for some sense on this.

Some have a weird idea of democracy.
This government, like or dislike it is there with a 160+ overall majority until 2029, if it wishes to be.
No election necessary until around August 2029.
That's how our democracy works.

I have many Conservative friends and I know they certainly don't want another election.
They haven't had time to sort themselves out after this year's yet.

So it is likely more of the Reform near brainwashed lot with their destructive divisiveness wanting this.
I can say with some of the most certainty I could this pathetic and ridiculous petition will be and should be laughed at and dismissed by Parliament.
Democracy doesn't only work when YOU win.
Elections decide and they are set for around every 5 years.
Then change can be enacted if ALL the voters decide that.
Not just some disgruntled millions who cannot accept in the main, defeat.

I doubt many pensioners will sign this really.
Some yes, however certainly the Farmers will.
It's been dared by a government to end their exemption from a tax.
They don't care who else pays it though as long as they're exempt.

The people peddling this have also been influencing foreigners to sign it by fraudulently entering British postcodes, so you can guarantee that half of the ‘signatures’ aren’t actually British people looking for an election, but foreign right wingers angry there’s a western government not paying them any attention

It's all over TikTok so will likely be chock full of US / MAGA signatures.

The same folk who are putting up videos stating that Trump has "instructed Prince Charles to overturn the UK election and install Nigel Farage as prime minister with immediate effect" - complete with dramatic music .

Honestly at this point I'm convinced that it's true... entertainment media has become "too woke". There's not enough on telly to keep a certain demographic entertained with stories that they enjoy, so they're just sort of faffing/playing around nonsensically in the world of politics sharing absolute rot with each other and believing that it means something.

We do like a good old whinge in this country.
The government we have is the one that was voted for, democratically, like it or not.
Not a fan so far but then not a fan of most of them at present.
Tories lost fair and square.

They should make it like BB and give everyone another 5 votes to use after 6 months in government. This would stop the lying to get in to then just go back on everything you promised once elected.

2 million now, and counting.

Big brave kiers risking a grilling by the hard hitting people at this morning..very brave of him.

It's not really practical - although in principle I wouldn't be against the idea of meaningful consequences if a party entering power goes back on election pledges/does a complete 180 after getting into power (without being able to give clear reasons that they've done so, and that they couldn't have predicted before making the pledge).

Meh like I said give us all a nudge when it hits 10 million and they're verified to actually be from people in the UK. Until then it means nothing, other than that it's a well-advertised poll. It's not news that 2 million people want Labour out. More than 2 million people never wanted them in.

Hm, I'd say ~5 million (verified) votes rather than 10 - that's more than of those who voted for Labour.

And even if ten mill did sign the petition, I don't think it would or should lead to an election. But it might nudge Labour to reconsider some of their policies...

Nah they are drunk on power, in 4 years time as a new General Election is coming there will be some softening of stances but not for a few years

I really can't see them lasting the full term - I'm not saying I want them to fall apart by the end, but I kind of feel like they will.

But who knows - maybe Kier will swap out Rachel for someone who didn't lie about their credentials, and who understands what "second order effects" are and things will be hunky and/or dory.
