I sometimes wonder - do they actually do this anywhere? Maybe some operate in larger towns/cities?

Not only have I never seen one of these mysterious "inspection vans" ... ... I don't know ANYONE who has seen one. I think they're a myth.

Also how do they check? I have a TV, for streaming services and PS5, but it's not for live TV ... ... do they search around behind the TV unit looking for cables? Make me turn it on to see if it connects? Seize the remote control?

I actually do know someone that they visited up in Scotland. They literally threatened him and he told them to f off. Eventually, they stopped bothering him

When I was a student, I got a visit from them and there were about 7 of us sharing a house. I answered the door spliff in hand and just said nope, not using a TV

It's basically an enforcement agency, but they have no right to enter your property. So if you say, no, i don't watch live TV, there is nothing they can do

I know the magic vans don't exist and it's also BS about them checking for a sat dish; Sky has been around forever, so loads of houses have an old dish still attached to the side not in use. My current one doesn't, thought my old one did, that we didn't use.

Dishes are on the way out now anyway I think? Even "Sky" seems to be switching to basically being just live-streaming (via broadband connection). Once they get rid of the broadcast TV signal there'll no longer be any excuse at all for the TV license. BBC can be part of a TV package / people can pay for Player subscription if they want one, and there'll be no access for those who don't. Like any other normal service .

Actually come to think of it, while my house does have a TV aerial port in the living room, the aerial itself is actually in the loft space - not on the roof. So there's no external "proof of telly" at all .

They used to go round with their detector vans and I guess it's possible at that time they could detect the old cathode ray valve TV, but it's pretty dubious. Now, they would have no idea if you were watching live TV or not

From what I've heard, the vans never existed... and they stopped advertising about the "vans" because new rules came in meaning they could no longer threaten with flat-out lies
