This is what Wikipedia says about his funding of Joe Doherty to receive asylum to the USA.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mickey_Rourke I've got to be honest if this is true then ITV have seriously crossed the line with his casting. It's like Jim Davidson, Michael Barrymore, or the Asian girl that liked to cosplay as a Nazi all over again. It surely can't be hard for BB to find controversial Celebrities that haven't committed crimes or champions genocide, surely?

That was very common in the US. Even those in Congress supported (with money) the IRA. They’re usually people of Irish descent. It was considered a mainstream position in the US in the 90s.

And they're what I would call disturbing individuals that shouldn't be celebrated on UK TV.

A lot of plastic paddies from the U S donated to NORAID. A bunch of losers who wouldn't of lasted a day on the streets of Belfast, Londonderry etc.
Oh it must be so romantic When the fighting's over there And they're passing round the shamrock And you're all filled up with tears "For the love of dear old Ireland" That you've never even seen You throw in twenty dollars And sing "Wearing of the Green Each dollar a bullet Each victim someone's son And Americans kill Irishmen As surely As if they fired the gun |

…(…I think…)…that whatever funding/donations he may have made were made on a humanitarian basis as opposed to support of the IRA…?…that’s what he’s always said and maintained so I presume that’s how it was ….

It definitely makes me view him through a much more cynical light now though, I'm going to be eagle-eyed with him from now on. ![]()

The IRA got most of it's funding from the USA. It made people in the UK very angry at the time. You only need to look at St Patrick's celebrations there to see the level of support they had

I wonder what Mickey thought of 9/11? Or any of the Americans who were funding and supporting the IRA at the time. I bet they wouldn't have liked someone from the UK to have financially supported Bin Laden/Al Qaeda at the time. Hypocrites.
