then i don't think this person purchased the gun in California, but more in another state, where it easier for him to buy one

I heard on the news there was some kind of school or college event going on at the venue. Not sure if that's been confirmed.

Tragic and sickening.
So much of this thing going on nowadays. My son and his girlfriend arrived here from LA airport yesterday, very worrying times. |

aged 28 serving from 2008 to 2013 https://news.sky.com/story/police-of...oting-11547986 Last edited by arista; 08-11-2018 at 05:34 PM. |

What ****ing chance do you have when an essentially trained killer decides to shoot the place up.
Just awful. |

This is probably the source of the number: Source: http://www.shootingtracker.com/ Some problems with that source: The Media’s Inflated ‘Mass Shootings’ Count Is Wildly Misleading https://www.nationalreview.com/2015/...nt-misleading/ My own definition is fairly close to how the Congress Research Service put it in the above source. Since there are various floating definitions of "mass shootings", obviously, the version that gets the most clicks is going to be method that nets the higher number. From what reading I'd done, I'd say they are playing funny business with some of the numbers. (Added later) This was posted today. Similar as the article above, but it goes into more detail and explicitly addresses your post: Twitter: Thousand Oaks Is '304th Mass Shooting' This Year. That's Misleading. https://www.dailywire.com/news/38123...r-hank-berrien Spoiler: We don't really have any centrist media in the US anymore. Not surprising if you look at our politics, but I would say much of our bipolar coverage is due to the economic reality of the media environment in general. The web used to fill in for this gap, but with the advent of social, the web economy is very hostile towards small-time journalism/news. So even the smaller outfits will pander to some demographic/line-of-attack in order to push traffic. Many eventually exist as part of a bigger umbrella (i.e. Gawker media). That's why it's important to check different sites for variances on statistics/facts from both sides... and maybe question when the media tells you "that source is so full of ****"... if maybe there is competitive reason behind that... and even more importantly, when reading anything gun-related, to check with people who understand firearms, firearms-related laws, who have done work in criminal justice-related fields, etc to get a better grip on the statistics. @OP I had I read that there were 4-5 off-duty officers in the crowds. One of the ones that were murdered were very close to retirement. It's sad. So we may hear, why wasn't anyone armed, etc. They would not necessarily have been in armed in TX either. We have a law on the books that if more than 50% of the establishments sales is alcohol, then they are required to post a sign with the penal code stating carrying a weapon onto those premises will result in a felony. Stores also have the option of putting up similar sign at their discretion. With police, obviously they are permitted on-duty, but I'm not sure about off-duty. Fairly certain the answer here is yes. However, if they planned to drink alcohol in any amount, then they can't carry anything. It's so sad. I wish the media would stop popularizing the names+faces of these people...
